About Alfia
My artistic journey began in Bangladesh where I completed my bachelor's degree, and continued when I came to the USA to pursue my Master's in Textile from Southern University, which I completed last year. Currently, I'm expanding my expertise by pursuing a second master's degree in Information Technology Management at Webster University, with the goal of enhancing my ability to run a business in the art field. My work centers on the complexity of motherhood and mothers' mental health, particularly the challenges women face after giving birth. As a mother myself to a two-and-a-half-year-old special needs child who was recently diagnosed with ASD, I draw from my own experiences of navigating motherhood while being a student and artist. I work primarily with fabric materials, creating textile-based art and mixed media pieces that incorporate embroidery, stitching, and various other materials. Through my art, I explore how mothers cope with social influences, balance their work and responsibilities, and maintain their mental health during this transformative time. My goal is to help other mothers learn from my perspective and use art as therapy to fulfill their dreams while prioritizing their wellbeing. I have exhibited my work in numerous exhibitions and have been published and interviewed in various platforms including Artist on Close Up and Honor Magazine. As a member of the Surface Design Association, I continue to develop my practice and share my work with the broader artistic community. My dream is to have my own gallery in the USA where people can come see my collections and connect with the stories I tell through my art.
