Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alicia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say a great foundation which started with my mother and how she taught me and things that I saw from her. But also things I learned from people I interacted with over the years of my career, some of the leaders that I had and also some of the team members on my team that really helped me learn from them just as much as they learn from me. Family as well as people that were my leaders and people on my team.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You get one chance it's your platform. A leader told me during performance evaluations that it's your platform to tell your story, communicate what you did, who you coordinated with, and the impact it had. This perspective helps beyond evaluations in interviews and talking about your career by painting the picture of the what, the who, and the impact.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be hungry. Be hungry and be confident in yourself. Recognize your worth. Recognize what you bring to the table. Recognize your skills and abilities and recognize how those can help an organization, impact others, even impact yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge is technology, the speed with which technology changes. In the software industry there's so much happening so quickly and it's very competitive. It's about what to add to your stack in terms of technology like AI, which tool to utilize, how to utilize it, and where it will have the most impact for the business either by cost savings or making jobs more efficient.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Ethics. Morality, those two go hand in hand. Being true, I am authentic. Authenticity. Being human. I am a person. I'm not perfect. I make mistakes just like everybody else. Being accountable for what I do, taking responsibility for your actions.
