About Alyssa
She is a public policy, advocacy, and civic leadership professional with experience in legislative reform, stakeholder engagement, government accountability, healthcare policy, civil rights concerns, and coalition building. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Black Republican Caucus of Florida and Founder and President of the 501(c)(4) Florida Institute for Policy & Advocacy, where she leads nationwide advocacy and statewide policy reform efforts. She has also been a mayoral candidate for the City of Miami and held business development leadership experience with Scion Networks.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success has never come from having the easiest path. It has come from persistence, faith, and refusing to quit when things become difficult. I believe consistency reveals intention, and I have tried to live that every day. I focus on solving problems, serving people, and earning trust through action rather than words. Those principles have opened doors that talent alone never could.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received was to focus more on being useful and less on being interesting. Titles and recognition come and go, but people remember how decisions and actions affected their lives. Opportunities find you when you consistently create value, solve problems, help people, and remain reliable by simply showing up and doing the work even when it's hardest.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get involved before you feel ready. Most growth happens by showing up and learning along the way. Focus on building relationships and developing a genuine understanding of how systems work. Be bold, sit at tables where you might feel you don't fit in, go in with the energy that you belong there, ask questions, take on challenges, and put yourself in uncomfortable spaces.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the growing disconnect between institutions and public trust, where people feel unheard and frustrated. This is also one of the biggest opportunities because people are more engaged than ever through social media and technology, looking for ways to have their voices heard. Technology allows making policy issues more accessible, like apps that break down bills, enabling connection even for those who can't be in the Capitol.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Consistency reveals intention and is incredibly important because without it you don't get the outcomes you deserve. Accountability is at the center of everything, as people deserve leaders and systems that take responsibility. Integrity builds trust through consistency. Perseverance shaped my life and propelled me through the political world. Service measures success by positive impact on others' lives, which is why I have my nonprofit.

How life’s greatest challenges can become your greatest purpose.
Pain has a way of changing us. We don't get to choose whether hardship enters our lives, but we do get to choose what we do with it.
Some people allow pain to define them. Others choose to let it reveal them.
The most meaningful work of my life began with profound personal loss. What could have become bitterness instead became purpose. I realized that while I couldn't change what had happened, I could choose to ensure that my experience wasn't wasted. I could advocate for others, challenge broken systems, and work toward solutions that might spare another family from experiencing the same pain.
I've learned that resilience isn't the absence of struggle. It's the decision to keep moving forward despite it.
Leadership isn't born from a perfect life; it's often forged in the moments that test us the most.
When we transform pain into purpose, we not only heal ourselves, we create opportunities to serve others. We become more compassionate, more courageous, and more willing to stand up for what's right, even when it's difficult.
You don't have to wait until your life is perfect to make a difference. Sometimes your greatest strength is found in the very thing you never wanted to experience.
