About Andrea
Andrea Donovan-DuPont is a licensed clinical social worker and certified case manager with nearly two decades of experience in the field of social work. For the past thirteen years, she has served as a Case Manager at Premera Blue Cross, a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, where she supports individuals facing chronic and acute health conditions, high-risk pregnancies, and new cancer diagnoses. Managing a caseload of roughly fifty clients, she relies on motivational interviewing techniques to build individualized care plans, connect people with appropriate resources and in-network providers, and coordinate closely with hospital discharge planners to ensure safe, well-managed transitions of care.
Andrea earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 2004, followed by her Master of Social Work from the same institution in 2007. She holds licensure as a Clinical Social Worker in both Washington and Florida, along with certifications as a Case Manager and a Financial Social Worker. She is an active member of the Case Management Society of America and has maintained ties with the National Association of Social Workers throughout her career. Prior to her role at Premera Blue Cross, she gained diverse experience in the field through positions at Providence Elder Place and Molina Healthcare, as well as earlier work as a victim advocate in Orlando, Florida.
Known for a non-judgmental and open-minded approach, Andrea treats every client with the same compassion and respect she would want for herself. She credits much of her professional growth to the mentorship of supportive colleagues and supervisors, who helped her identify her strengths and define her approach to case management. Guided by a growth mindset and a genuine adaptability to the shifting healthcare landscape, she remains passionate about the meaningful, purpose-driven nature of her work — encouraging others in the field to focus on positive outcomes and to recognize the lasting value of the support they provide.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Andrea
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the support of the colleagues and supervisors I've worked with throughout my career, who helped me recognize my own strengths and shape the kind of case manager I wanted to become. I've also stayed grounded in a growth mindset — I welcome change and try to remain as adaptable as possible in an evolving field.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to focus on the positive outcomes and the wins. It's important to give yourself credit and to remind yourself that your work carries real purpose and value.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say: do it. This work is incredibly rewarding — you get to truly know the people you serve and understand what they're going through. Stay flexible, keep a growth mindset, and lean into your adaptability. You're never really done learning, so embrace that ongoing journey.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Compassion fatigue is one of the biggest challenges we face, and it puts many of us at risk for burnout. On top of that, the American healthcare system itself is complex, which adds another layer of difficulty to the work.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I try to approach my work with an open, non-judgmental attitude, treating people the way I would want to be treated myself. Curiosity, continuous learning, and supporting patients without judgment matter deeply to me — as does doing the right thing, maintaining integrity and ethics, even when that's challenging.
