Angela Barnes is a dedicated accounting professional specializing in business process improvement, financial reporting, and project management. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Angela brings extensive experience in accounting information systems, external audit, and operational efficiency, helping organizations streamline processes and achieve measurable results. Her journey in accounting began at age 13, inspired by a desire to work with the FBI, one of the largest recruiters of accounting professionals. While in school, she discovered public accounting and fell in love with its fast-paced environment, particularly in external audit, with expertise serving construction, non-profit, and privately held companies.
Currently, Angela serves as a Senior Associate at Mock Bosco & Associates, P.C., where she leads a team including a senior and staff members who perform audits, consulting, paper preparation, and tax planning. She applies her knowledge and leadership skills to ensure high-quality client service while fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment for her team. Angela’s most notable achievement is mentoring staff members and watching them grow in their careers, receiving acknowledgment from leadership for the positive impact she has made on their development.
Angela holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Florida and has earned certifications in Financial Close Level 1 and Level 2 Implementation through BlackLine. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and public speaking, she combines technical expertise with strong communication and leadership skills. What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to find a strong mentor and build a reliable support system it can make all the difference during challenging moments. Always keep pushing forward and have confidence in yourself. Remember, a 'no' is not the end; it’s just a step toward your next opportunity.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is understanding the direction in which the audit landscape is evolving, as regulations and expectations continue to shift. Another significant challenge is navigating ever-changing tax rules, which require staying up to date and adaptable. However, these challenges also present opportunities to grow, innovate, and provide greater value to clients by anticipating changes before they happen.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value that is most important to me in both my work and personal life is integrity. I believe in being honest, transparent, and consistent in everything I do, as it builds trust, credibility, and long-lasting relationships.
