About Angelica
Dr. Angelica Jones, Ed.D. is a dedicated educator with Memphis-Shelby County Schools in Memphis, Tennessee, where she has served for more than 15 years. As a 6th grade Math and Computer Science Teacher at Snowden School, she specializes in mathematics and science education and serves as the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) Lead for Math. Throughout her career, Dr. Jones has been committed to fostering academic excellence, supporting student success, and creating meaningful learning experiences that empower students to reach their full potential.
Dr. Jones’ journey in education reflects her passion for lifelong learning and perseverance. Originally from a small town in Mississippi, she relocated to Memphis in 2005 and built a successful career in education while overcoming significant personal challenges, including raising her family as a single mother. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Mississippi, a Master of Education in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, graduating summa cum laude, and a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University, graduating cum laude. Her academic achievements demonstrate her dedication to professional growth and excellence in the field of education.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Jones is deeply committed to serving her community through mentorship, volunteerism, and educational outreach. She has been recognized as Teacher of the Month and actively participates in organizations including Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Order of the Eastern Star. As a Major Red Coach, she provides guidance and leadership while also offering free tutoring services to children and adults in her community. Dr. Jones attributes her success to her faith in God, perseverance, and the support of genuine relationships. Guided by values of honesty, integrity, and compassion, she inspires others through her story and encourages young women to remain resilient, pursue their dreams, and never give up.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to God, whose guidance, strength, and grace have carried me through every challenge and opportunity. When I moved to Memphis in 2005, I arrived without knowing anyone, but through faith and perseverance, I was able to overcome obstacles, grow professionally, and accomplish things I once only dreamed of. My journey has not always been easy, but my trust in God has given me the courage and determination to keep moving forward. I am grateful for the resilience He has instilled in me and for the ability to continue serving others, making a difference, and achieving my goals.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the education industry is to never give up. My testimony and journey have shown me that every challenge can be overcome with faith, determination, and perseverance. I believe I was placed on this earth to be an example and to show others that God is real and that adversity does not define your future. Despite the obstacles I have faced, including times when I did not know where my next meal would come from, I continued to push forward and remained committed to my purpose. I want young women to remember that “the mountain can be moved.” I am living proof that with faith, resilience, and hard work, even the greatest challenges can be overcome. Never stop believing in yourself, because your circumstances do not determine your destiny.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in education today is the need for stronger collaboration between schools and families. Many students are facing learning gaps, particularly in reading and literacy, and addressing these challenges requires consistent support both inside and outside the classroom. While educators work diligently to provide instruction, encouragement, and resources, meaningful involvement and partnership with parents and caregivers are essential to helping students reach their full potential. I believe that when teachers, families, and communities come together with a shared commitment to student success, we create greater opportunities for growth and achievement. Strengthening these partnerships is one of the most important opportunities we have to positively impact the future of our students.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, authenticity, and perseverance. I believe honesty is the foundation of strong relationships, trust, and meaningful connections with others. I value being surrounded by genuine people who lead with integrity and sincerity. Perseverance has also been a guiding principle throughout my journey, reminding me to remain committed, resilient, and determined even when faced with challenges. These values shape the way I serve my students, collaborate with others, and continue to grow both personally and professionally.
