Her Story

About Ashley

I have been in my field for about 16 years. My background is in early childhood education. I started off as a tutor and a babysitter, worked at places like Kumon, did internships, was a preschool teacher, and now I am principal of three preschool sites. I have two associate degrees, a bachelor's in early childhood education, a master's in education leadership and early childhood education, and I am working on my EdD.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ashley

01What do you attribute your success to?

My kids and my husband for supporting me along the way. Trying to be the example for my kids has been a huge motivation. My immediate family is my biggest support system.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be the person that you needed when you were younger. I strive to be supportive and see what my daughter needs as my mini-me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do what your heart tells you to do. Push on and don't delay your education even if family questions it, because it will pay off for your career and family.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Staffing is a big challenge due to low ratios and difficulty finding quality candidates. The biggest opportunity is continuing support for students transitioning to TK and kindergarten through ongoing collaboration with elementary colleagues.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith is a really big component. Family is huge, they are your rock and support system. Being hands-on and leading by example in my work.
