Her Interview
Ten minutes with Becky
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my determination to break the cycle I experienced growing up. My mother was on public assistance, and my father left when I was two years old. As a single teenage mother, I was determined to create a different life for myself and my children. I refused to view failure as an option. That determination motivated me to work hard, pursue my education, and continue advancing throughout my career. Ultimately, I went from being a single teenage mother to building a career that allowed me to earn more than six figures.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is simple: don't give up. If I have a goal in mind, I believe I should work as hard as I can toward achieving it. Persistence, dedication, and a willingness to keep moving forward can make it possible to accomplish goals that may initially seem difficult or out of reach.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is not to allow the fact that it can still be a male-dominated environment to discourage them. There may be times when the industry feels like a "good old boys club," but that should never determine how much you believe you can accomplish. Know your value, demonstrate your expertise, and make sure the people around you recognize how valuable you are every day. Your abilities and contributions deserve to be seen and respected.
