Her Story

About Bindhu

I've spent my entire career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology field, working in research and development. After completing my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Mercer University in Georgia in 2013, I started my career in the pharmaceutical industry, where I've been for 13 years. I joined Regeneron in 2021 as an associate director, and since January 2025, I've been serving as Director. In my role, I lead a team of about 20 scientists with master's and PhD degrees, managing product development activities for injectable medicines. My typical day involves strategic meetings, working with the team on technical guidance, understanding and evaluating experimentation, data analysis, and presenting findings to management. I've had the privilege of working on several medicines that are currently on the market and being used by patients, which I consider life-saving medicines. My main area of expertise is pharmaceutical drug development and drug delivery. I've published extensively, with 10 to 15 publications based on pharmaceutical medicines, including work on women's health and other drug development aspects, and I've also filed patents.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Bindhu

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being proactive, being passionate about what I do, and being diligent. These are three values that I hold dear and that I also share with my team, as I believe they can contribute to their success as well. Being proactive means not assuming anything and always asking questions. Being passionate keeps me engaged and motivated in my work. And being diligent ensures that I follow through and maintain high standards in everything I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is that learning is important throughout your career journey. I've learned to have both a short-term vision and a long-term vision, but to take one step at a time. This approach has helped me stay focused and not get overwhelmed, allowing me to build my career progressively while continuing to learn and grow at each stage.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say be proactive and don't assume anything. In the field of science, a lot of things happen, and as a scientist or anybody joining the career, it's important to have critical thinking. You need to ask why is it happening, what is happening. That kind of attitude is very important. If you have that questioning mindset and if you're strong in your basics, I think it's not very difficult to learn and grow in this industry. Don't just accept things at face value, always dig deeper and understand the fundamentals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is that the pharmaceutical industry is ever-evolving. While the industry has done tremendous work on life-threatening diseases over the years, the challenge is that you have to keep up with the pace of evolution in the medical field and also be ahead of it in order to make a difference in patients' lives. Ultimately, the quality of medicines we bring in is important. The biggest opportunity is that what we do has a direct impact on patients' lives. That's the satisfaction you get as a scientist in this industry - knowing that your work is making a real difference for people who need these medicines.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

From a professional perspective, I definitely value being empathetic, being respectful, and creating an environment that's more of a safe space. I also strongly believe in family values and the motto of live and let live. Whether in professional or personal environments, I think people should be able to exist without being judged. People have their own reasons for things, and I think it's all relative. So my core value is just to be kind - that's all.
