Her Story

About Brea

Brea Dionne Yellin is a healthcare professional based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, specializing in diabetic patient support and durable medical equipment (DME). She currently serves on the Diabetic Team at Shield HealthCare, where she assists patients with insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and related medical supplies. Her responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment concerns, answering patient questions, supply ordering, coordinating with manufacturers and sales representatives, and working with endocrinologists and physician assistants to obtain necessary prescriptions and insurance documentation. Before joining Shield HealthCare, Brea worked as an Insurance Verification Specialist at Medtronic and a Prior-Approval Support Specialist at Boston Scientific, developing extensive knowledge of medical equipment, healthcare insurance, and patient support. Before transitioning into healthcare, Brea spent ten years teaching preschool and kindergarten, building a strong foundation in education, communication, and helping others understand complex information. Her passion for educating people continues to shape her approach to patient care, particularly when assisting individuals who are unfamiliar with diabetes management technology. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Adminisration, with a concentration in Management and Operations, at the University of Phoenix. Having overcome earlier academic setbacks, she is committed to continuing her education while balancing her professional responsibilities and family life. Brea attributes her perseverance and work ethic to the influence of her late father and her desire to be a positive role model for her daughter. She believes exceptional patient support goes beyond resolving technical or insurance concerns; it means making people feel heard, comfortable, and supported rather than treating them as just another number. Outside of work, she prioritizes yoga, fitness, staying healthy and community involvement, including supporting charitable causes and encouraging her daughter to donate toys to children at the hospital. Looking ahead, Brea hopes to open an apothecary with one of her best friends, a dietitian, focused on natural and holistic approaches to wellness. Through her work and future aspirations, she remains committed to education, compassionate service, and helping others make informed decisions about their health.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brea

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success and drive come from my father, who was a persistent voiceover actor and writer who taught me about understanding people, meditation, and now from my daughter, for whom I must be the best role model and never give up.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up, even when discouraged. Never stop learning and being a student. I was a teacher for 10 years before entering the medical field, and education is my passion.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I face right now is balancing my time with my daughter. I will always have guilt about having to use up my time with work, on already divided-up time.

Opportunities in this field are endless. There are many directions I could go, and my ultimate plan is to eventually take the holistic route and start a business that is focused on natural alternatives to healing and preventative care, once I'm finished with school. I would also love to be able to say that I was able to help implement more holistic care into health insurance coverage. If people knew how to and had the tools to manage their own health, and have it covered, it's a win-win.
