Her Story
About Brittani
Brittani Burton is the Co-Founder of Bio-One Bloomington, a franchise specializing in professional biohazard remediation services throughout central Indiana, extending from the Bloomington area south to the Kentucky state line. Alongside her business partner, Megan Ridge, she leads the company in providing compassionate, discreet, and professional cleanup services for families, property managers, emergency medical services, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies. The team handles sensitive situations including crime scenes, unattended deaths, hoarding environments, suicides, and other biohazard incidents, with a strong focus on respecting clients and supporting them through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Before co-founding Bio-One Bloomington, Burton spent approximately a decade working as an Emergency Medical Technician, gaining valuable experience in high-pressure situations and developing a deep understanding of compassionate service. She later transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry, where she spent five years in leadership and supervisory roles. During that time, she led teams through process deviations and improvement initiatives and helped advance documentation systems from paper-based processes to electronic formats. Her background in emergency medical services, pharmaceutical operations, and leadership has provided her with a strong foundation in safety, problem-solving, process improvement, and team management.
Burton holds an EMT certification and a high school diploma and has completed leadership coursework through Brown University. Her professional philosophy is grounded in compassion, personal growth, continuous self-improvement, and responsibility. She credits her young son as a source of motivation and inspiration, particularly during challenging times. Guided by the advice from her parents to finish what she starts, Burton encourages women entering the field to build strong professional networks, remain persistent, and continue moving forward despite obstacles. Through Bio-One Bloomington, she is committed to serving others with integrity, discretion, and compassion while making a meaningful difference in the communities she serves.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brittani
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my son, who has been a constant source of motivation and strength throughout my journey. Knowing that he is watching me and looking to me as an example has encouraged me to keep moving forward, even when faced with significant challenges and uphill battles. His presence reminds me that giving up is not an option and inspires me to remain resilient, continue growing, and pursue my goals with determination and purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is simple: if you start something, you need to finish it. This is a principle I have always lived by, and it has taught me the importance of commitment, perseverance, and following through, even when the journey becomes challenging. Completing what I start has helped me remain focused, overcome obstacles, and continue moving forward both personally and professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to get involved, put yourself out there, and start building meaningful professional relationships. Networking is essential, particularly in an industry that many people may not know exists, so establishing connections and making your business or expertise visible is critical. I encourage women to be persistent and resilient, because there will inevitably be challenges and difficult periods along the way. When you encounter a rough patch, keep moving forward and do not give up. Success comes from showing up, building strong relationships, and remaining committed even when the journey becomes difficult.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in this field is maintaining empathy while also maintaining professional boundaries. The work often involves hearing deeply personal and difficult stories, so compassion is essential, but it is equally important to separate the business responsibilities from the emotional weight of each situation and avoid becoming too personally involved. Finding that balance can be challenging, but it is also one of the most important aspects of serving clients effectively. At the same time, the opportunities in this field are extensive. By building strong relationships and connections throughout the community, professionals can establish themselves as trusted resources for traumatic events, specialized cleanup needs, and volunteer opportunities, ultimately becoming a go-to source of support for the communities they serve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are compassion, growth, self-improvement, and responsibility. Compassion is at the heart of everything I do, especially when supporting people during some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives. I also believe strongly in continuously learning, growing, and striving to become a better version of myself. Responsibility is equally important because, through my work, we often take on significant burdens for our clients, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward while we handle the challenges they are facing.
