Her Story
About Brittany
I've been in my field for 6 years now, with 4 years in my current sales role at Morris Business Solutions. My journey started right out of high school in 2020 during COVID. I had basketball scholarships lined up to play in college, but I turned them all down to start working for my family's company. My dad runs Morris Business Solutions, and when COVID hit and people were getting sick, he asked me to step in and help. I'm a huge family person, so I said yes. I started as a shop technician, building copiers and printers and getting them ready for clients. I also drove a huge truck delivering to different companies. Then I moved into dispatch, taking calls and sending our technicians to clients who were having issues. After that, I worked in supplies, shipping out to customers, and then did accounting, IT, and helped with our procurement team where machines come in and get input into our system. I basically learned the ropes all around our service center, and once I got really good at things, they gave me more and more responsibilities. After 2 years on the service side, they said I should go into sales. I was terrified because I was the shy girl in high school who did not like to talk to people. But my dad reminded me that I had so much potential and needed to keep pushing myself. He told me he didn't think I was going to be able to be the number one rep in my first year in sales. I took that as a challenge, and my first full year as a rep, I was actually the number one rep in our company. Now I help train new sales reps, do face-to-face meetings with clients, make phone calls, and attend training meetings to learn about new materials and upgrades. I also coach 6th grade basketball at St. John's in the winter because I wanted to give back - basketball is the one thing that made me grow and gave me the foundation for who I am today.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my willingness to push myself and get uncomfortable, because that's how you grow. I've always had the mindset that if someone told me I couldn't do something, even if it was myself, I took it as a challenge. When my dad said he didn't think I was going to be able to be the number one rep in my first year in sales, I told him okay and took that as a challenge. I firmly believe that as long as you're willing to put in the work, you can achieve anything. All the work that I put in paid off, and that was the best feeling ever. I also learned so much from other people because I'm a really good listener. The people around me giving me feedback and me learning from them really helps me. Basketball also gave me the foundation for who I am today - it made me grow and taught me that you have to want it. I wanted to prove myself to everyone that I wasn't just the owner's daughter, that I was going to work for everything I got, and if someone needed me to do something, I was gonna do it to the best of my ability and ask questions where needed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was from my dad when I was hesitant about going into sales. He told me, 'Brittany, you've done excellent here, you've been on this side of the house for 2 years, you have so much potential in you, you need to keep pushing yourself.' That really stuck with me. He reminded me that you only get one life, and if you're not going to push yourself and you're not going to get uncomfortable, how are you going to grow? How are you going to know if you don't try? How do you know you're not going to be able to succeed or do anything? That advice changed everything for me because it made me realize that I had to challenge myself, even when I was scared or didn't think I could do something.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me are family, faith, and making a difference in people's lives. I'm a huge family person - that's why I stepped in to help when my dad needed me during COVID. We're a faith-based company, and we even have a cross in our logo to remind us that we're not just doing this for us, we're doing this for a higher power. To me, it's not just about what I'm selling, it's about the company I'm selling for and making a difference in people's lives in the way I can. I feel like you can sell anything to anyone as long as you put in the work, but it's more important about who you're doing it with, and if you respect them and the company you work for. I'm not a very pushy sales rep - I just want to help customers and make their lives easier and better in different ways. I also believe in giving back, which is why I coach basketball for 6th graders, because basketball gave me so much and I wanted to give back to help others grow the way it helped me.
