Cailee Wagner, M.B.S., is an accomplished Laboratory Manager specializing in histology, clinical research, and GCP/GLP-compliant laboratory operations. Currently leading the histology team at Rapid City Medical Center, she brings extensive expertise in biomedical sciences, medical laboratory technology, and regulatory compliance. Her experience spans general medical lab science, grossing technician duties, advanced medical technologies, laboratory budgeting, purchasing, and validation of new equipment. Cailee is also highly skilled in developing CLIA- and CAP-compliant laboratory manuals and SOPs, ensuring precision, reliability, and adherence to strict regulatory standards.

With a strong educational foundation, Cailee earned her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado and her Bachelor’s degree with honors from St. Cloud State University. She combines her academic knowledge in anatomy, histology, and clinical trial policies with practical proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic and Cerner, Microsoft Office applications, and regulatory frameworks including FDA, ICH/GCP, and GLP guidelines. Her technical expertise extends to a deep familiarity with Roche, Leica, and Sakura medical devices, enhancing laboratory efficiency and quality in patient care and clinical research settings.

Outside of her professional life, Cailee enjoys reading, crocheting, embroidery, and hiking with her dogs. She is also actively involved in the hockey community through her husband’s professional career in the AHL and ECHL leagues. Committed to continuous learning and professional growth, she recently earned certifications in “Fixation Matters” and “Controlling Your Controls (QC)” from StatLab, reflecting her dedication to advancing laboratory standards and clinical research excellence.

My advice to young women entering my industry is to embrace learning opportunities, speak up confidently, and remember that your perspective and opinions truly matter. Being proactive and assertive while staying curious can open doors and help you make a meaningful impact.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is the decreasing number of people entering and working in labs. This shortage creates increased demands on existing professionals but also presents opportunities for innovation, mentorship, and attracting new talent to strengthen the workforce.
