Her Story
About Candace
Candace Paul is an author, publisher, and creative entrepreneur dedicated to helping others transform their ideas into meaningful works that inspire and empower. As the founder of Aknowingspirit LLC, she has spent the past decade guiding aspiring and established authors through every stage of the publishing process—from concept development to final publication. Her company provides comprehensive services, including developmental editing, copyediting, cover design, book formatting, illustration, marketing, and creative consulting, making the publishing journey both accessible and affordable.
Candace's passion for publishing began with her own experience as an author. After working with a small press, she chose to independently publish her work, only to discover that others were seeking her expertise. What started with publishing her first two books evolved into a thriving business that has supported more than 20 authors and resulted in the publication of 17 books. She is passionate about helping writers share their stories, discover their purpose, and use their talents to make a positive impact on others.
In addition to leading her publishing company, Candace brings a diverse professional background in law, communications, public relations, and strategic engagement. She earned her bachelor's degree in Public Relations with a minor in Business Administration from Howard University before receiving her Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, where she was both a Merit Scholar and Dean's Fellow. Whether serving in the public sector or mentoring authors, Candace remains committed to connecting people with purpose and helping them bring their visions to life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Candace
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the example set by my parents, who were both educators and lifelong learners. They instilled in me the value of education, giving back, and helping others, and their mentorship continues to shape both my personal and professional life.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to take your time and always lead with kindness. Treating others with respect and genuine compassion builds lasting relationships. People appreciate kindness, remember it, and it often opens doors both personally and professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to take a chance on yourself. You may be more capable and better prepared than you realize. Don't hold yourself back or count yourself out because you don't have all the answers. There will always be more to learn, but the most important step is simply to start.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in publishing today is the rise of artificial intelligence. While AI can be a helpful tool, it should not replace the creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth that come from writing. The process of developing ideas, overcoming challenges, and finding your own voice is an important part of the creative journey, and that's something technology cannot replicate.
