Her Interview

Ten minutes with Candice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I view my successes from watching my mom pursue her dreams and wanting to create the ultimate life for herself. She was a single mom and she didn't give up on what she wanted. She had standards of a life partner she wanted to have, she had standards for herself and the career she wanted to hold, and she's done it. It's been amazing to see.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just do it. Just do the thing you want to do. Do what you love. Do what you want.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Continue learning. Never sacrifice your own development for the sake of the need of program, because what's gonna push good programming for not only the sake of sustaining an organization, but for the sake of like making a better place for kids. Teachers and staff also need to be invested in, and the learning opportunities. Communities matter and can grow onto bigger things.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I feel like I'm such a family person, like I love spending time with my close people, I love quality time, I love sharing. Being in nature with my family too. I think that's really important, and it's really grounding to us. So family, nature, and yeah, in work, I would say communication, and how it takes trying to get it right, but it also creates a better quality of life when we have that time to communicate.
