Carol Fitzgerald
Carol Fitzgerald is a retired development professional whose career spanned nearly three decades in the non-profit sector, marked by a deep commitment to fundraising, public relations, and organizational growth. She began her professional journey as a physical therapist in Switzerland, then transitioned into non-profit work after receiving training from the American Heart Association. Over the years, Carol contributed to several prominent organizations, including the American Heart Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the New England Home for Little Wanderers, where she specialized in PR, marketing, and fundraising. One of her most notable achievements was securing a million-dollar gift from an individual donor during her tenure at a New England organization, a milestone that underscores her expertise and impact in the field.
Educated at Columbia University and Vermont College, Carol combined her analytical skills and people-centered approach to drive meaningful results in her roles. After the loss of her first husband, she took time off to travel, celebrating her 60th birthday in Paris and choosing to focus on personal relationships rather than pursuing further formal education or work. Later, she moved to Hollywood, Florida, in 2011, where she married Mark Fitzgerald in 2012, and subsequently relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2019, embracing the seasonal changes and a new chapter of life.
Even in retirement, Carol remains actively engaged as a volunteer. She has served in leadership roles with the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Hollywood Women’s Club, including President and Board Vice President for Fundraising, overseeing public relations, social media updates, and website management. Recently recovering from cervical spine surgery, Carol continues to focus on giving back to her community, planning to volunteer with local organizations while enjoying time with her family and nurturing her personal passions.
