Her Story
About Carolina
I am an engineer who enjoys working with systems. When I started my career in 2008, e-commerce was the technology of innovation, so I found it very interesting to build a career around what e-commerce could do for the community. In my current work, I collaborate with leadership, business owners and founders, connecting their financial goals to opportunities in the market. Once we identify those opportunities, I design solutions by working with engineers and designers to develop and sell digital solutions such as booking systems, shopping funnels, and websites. I believe technology is really transforming the way humans and communities interact, and I can add value by helping humans, helping systems, helping countries connect to one another with technology to achieve goals around education, banking, and any industry. Outside of my job, I still do things similar to my work, but I do it for causes that I care about. I care about equity and justice, so I've been building systems to help broken families with co-parenting. I look at the foster system and try to find ways to build digital systems to help those families and children find each other and help children that are potentially not part of a family that's best for them. I'm also very interested in politics, especially in my country Colombia, given that it's a country that struggles with violence and inequity. I look at opportunities to build digital systems to help, potentially one day, the government with communities that are isolated, that haven't had the chance to learn what they need to learn to be able to become productive members of society. I'm also a single mother, so I spend a lot of time with my daughter.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To play the long game. To not sacrifice your time for short-term goals, to always look at the long-term opportunity and slowly, steady, is much more effective than fast and loud.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To work on their confidence. To be aware of the environment, and to find that resilience within themselves to drive with leadership, despite the challenges in the system and the environment, or even the challenges within them. Marry your mind and your heart, and then keep your eye in the long term, in the long game.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In my field, challenges include that technology moves very fast and changes every month. As a professional, you have to keep on learning and getting up-to-date with technology to be able to continue to stay relevant and build things that customers want to acquire.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Technology is really transforming the way humans and communities interact, so I can add value by helping humans, helping systems, helping countries connect to one another with technology to be able to achieve whatever goals around education, around banking, around any industry.
