About Carolyn
I have been working in the defense field for 44 years, and I currently serve as a Fellow at System Planning and Analysis, where I've been for the past 8 years. My expertise centers on missile design and manufacturing, including some classified work that I have to be careful about discussing. One of my proudest professional achievements was developing an artificial intelligence autoclave loading application back in 1999, which was groundbreaking because AI wasn't being widely used at that time. I'm also the author of a book titled 'Mapping Your Career Success for Women and Minorities,' which is available on Amazon. It's actually a workbook where readers fill in the blanks as they go through the process, helping them learn and apply the concepts. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Management from St. Mary's in Moraga, California, and have completed specialized training in management, leadership, and missile production at various universities throughout my career.

Ten minutes with Carolyn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to not taking no for an answer. Throughout my 44 years in the defense field, this mindset has been crucial in helping me break through barriers and achieve what I set out to do, whether it was developing groundbreaking AI technology back in 1999 or navigating a male-dominated industry as a woman.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Actually, read my book - I have all my tips in there. But if I had to highlight a couple of key pieces of advice, the first one would probably be to let go of the past and don't carry it with you forward. The other important thing to remember is that men and women don't always think the same way, so you need to understand the differences and be able to adapt to those differences. These insights have been critical in my own journey through the defense industry over the past 44 years.
