Her Story
About Cassidy
Communication is definitely one of my strengths, and working people-to-people came naturally to me in real estate. Sales and being one-on-one with people is in my wheelhouse. After 8 years in real estate, I've moved into more of an operational side, working in compliance with a lot of teams at the brokerage I'm with now. On the construction side, my husband is a project manager with a general contractor and was constantly trying to plan out different projects. One of the biggest issues he had was in our specific area - he was having a hard time getting any subcontractors to come do the work. It was a limited market here, and there were no female-owned businesses around here as well. We had a lot of connections within both of our spheres, and pretty much every man in our family is a business owner. My mother and I are also business owners in different aspects, so that part kind of runs in the family. There was just a need in the market here for the striping and seal coating business, so we decided to take a leap of faith and do it. My father and I own Align Striping together, and we've been doing this for about 3 years now. We also have a grading business. I really try to stay proactive on all of it because I do not want to get behind having kiddos at home. My mornings are kind of setting up my day, making sure things are ready to go, doing lead generation, social media posts, and making sure invoicing is looking good. In the afternoons, we send out the crews, usually after working hours because a lot of our business is based on when other companies are closed, so we try to do things after working hours, sometimes through the night or early in the mornings.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I really believe that whatever you put in, you're going to get out of it. We've been grateful to have a good sphere around us that wants to refer us business, but we also do our best to reach out to a lot of our local communities and local outreach that we can support. We try to sponsor a lot of our little leagues and golf tournaments that are just supporting people in our community. I feel like that makes a big difference when you're connected to the people around you, the people who see your business every day but also don't know you have that business and know that you support their families and friends as well. Being more involved in our community in a professional aspect has been my biggest opportunity. Just being involved in community aspects gives me a lot more experience than you would think, just because you're talking to so many different people in different industries. Staying as connected as possible has really been more beneficial than some of the education courses I took.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The biggest one is just praying about it, and when you have that answer, you go for it. That leap of faith that people talk about - I think that you can think about it forever, but until you just go out and do it, nothing's ever going to get accomplished. Also, just making it your own. You don't have to follow - you can take all the classes you want, follow all the building blocks of how other people have done it, but you can't always fall in line with everyone else. So make it yours, and just jump at it and make it something that represents what you want to represent in life too.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The construction side can be intimidating, but it shouldn't be. We're all trying to do the same thing - male, female, mama or not - we're all just trying to make money and build a future for ourselves and our family. I think just truly believing in yourself and trusting that you're going to get out of it what you put into it. I really do feel that way, whether it's real estate or construction. The harder you work, the more that you're going to succeed. You can't just rely on anyone else - rely on yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities are endless, in my opinion. I feel like whatever you put in, you're going to get out of it. That's been probably my biggest opportunity - just being more involved in our community in a professional aspect as well. As for challenges, there's always going to be someone else doing the job too, but just making sure that we're making things as personable and guaranteed as possible, and just putting in all the effort that we have. Of course, the market's changed - that's always challenging, but that's a never-ending issue.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Number one is my faith and family. I've been really blessed to have a great church community, but just ensuring that no matter who you're working with on our team, we are going to do our best to make things as clear and honest as possible - not only faith in Christ, but having just good faith in us as a team as well. So definitely just the true integrity of our team. But definitely having a work-life balance is really important. I have two children, two boys, and I'm pregnant with my third, a little girl. I want to be an active mama but still professional in work, because as much as all of my babies, I also really enjoy working. I want to have kind of the best of both worlds there, so being present in both.
