About Chelsey
Chelsey Watts is a highly accomplished civil litigation attorney with a decade of legal experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants across a broad range of complex matters, including personal injury, insurance defense, commercial litigation, trucking accidents, premises liability, negligent security, construction defects, and employment disputes. Known for her strategic approach to litigation, Watts has managed hundreds of cases, conducted more than 150 depositions, successfully negotiated numerous mediations, and served as first chair in over 20 trials. Her ability to understand opposing perspectives allows her to develop effective case strategies, provide strong client advocacy, and deliver favorable outcomes in high-stakes legal matters.
Watts earned her Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she served as an Assistant Editor for the Journal on Gender, Race, and Justice and developed a strong foundation in legal research, advocacy, and leadership. Throughout her career, she has held roles with respected litigation firms, gaining extensive experience in courtroom advocacy, motion practice, discovery, risk assessment, and trial preparation. Her professional achievements have earned her recognition as a National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 honoree, a D Magazine Best Lawyer Under 40, a Dallas Bar Foundation Fellow, and a Marquis Who’s Who Honored Listee.
Beyond her legal practice, Watts is deeply committed to advancing the legal profession and serving her community. She serves as President-Elect of the J.L. Turner Legal Association, a board member of the Dallas Bar Association, and a leader within the J.L. Turner Legal Foundation. Passionate about mentorship, community engagement, and professional growth, she dedicates time to supporting emerging attorneys and expanding access to legal services for underserved communities. Guided by values of integrity, diligence, and lifelong learning, Watts continues to build a distinguished career while inspiring the next generation of legal professionals.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my dedication to continuous growth. I am a lifelong learner, always seeking to expand my knowledge, whether through new areas of practice, evolving laws, or opportunities to improve my skills.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to trust my instincts. I approach decisions with intention, staying informed and thoughtful while trusting my judgment to guide me forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to be confident and believe that you deserve a seat at the table. Always maintain professionalism, build meaningful connections, and embrace every opportunity to grow.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is finding opportunities where my skills and contributions are fully recognized and valued. The greatest opportunity is career advancement, as many attorneys aspire to grow within their firms and achieve partnership.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are community, mentorship, and family. I believe in supporting others, sharing knowledge, building meaningful relationships, and staying connected to the people who inspire and ground me.
