Chitra Vashishtha

Vice President, Commercial Credit Administration
Provident Bank
Cedar Grove, NJ

I have spent the past 15 years building a career as a credit professional in the banking industry, driven by a long-standing passion for finance and a love of working with numbers. This interest naturally guided me toward a field where analytical thinking and financial insight are essential.

In February 2026, I proudly earned my master’s degree from Harvard University Extension School, graduating with a Dean’s List of Academic Achievement distinction. Balancing full-time work, rigorous academic demands, and raising two daughters made this accomplishment especially meaningful.

This milestone reflects my unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth, and my belief in continually pursuing my goals, regardless of life’s challenges.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I firmly believe that success begins with a well-thought-out plan. I plan ahead, stay organized, and remain committed to the process. In my experience, when you combine thoughtful planning with hard work and consistency, everything eventually falls into place. Fortunately, that approach has always worked well for me.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take a moment to pause, sit down, and truly reflect. It’s incredibly important, especially for women to give ourselves the time and space for introspection. Ask yourself what genuinely makes you happy.

When thinking about your career, whether it’s in finance or any other field, consider this - Is this something that will bring me fulfillment in the long run? Is this something I truly enjoy doing? When you honestly answer those questions, you begin to see the path that’s right for you.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is honesty, being truthful in everything I do. I believe in being honest with myself, with the people around me, and in my work.

Staying true to who I am is essential. When I remain authentic and grounded in my values, it reflects in how I treat others and how I approach my responsibilities. I strive to uphold honesty and integrity in every aspect of my life.

No matter the circumstances, this is a principle I will always stand by.
