Her Story
About Christina
Christina A. Cole is the Founder & CEO of Phoenix Health Compass and Phoenix Navigator, a healthcare technology innovator, keynote speaker, published author, and patient advocate dedicated to transforming the patient experience through transparency, education, and AI-powered innovation.
Her mission was born from personal experience. In 2023, what began as a routine surgical procedure resulted in septic shock, cardiac arrest, months of hospitalization, bilateral transmetatarsal amputations, the loss of several fingertips, and years of recovery. During that journey, Christina experienced firsthand how difficult it was to find trusted healthcare information, prepare for critical decisions, and navigate life after leaving the hospital. That experience became the catalyst for building a better way forward for patients and caregivers.
Drawing on a foundation of formal technology training and extensive self-directed learning, Christina expanded her technical expertise to design and build the Phoenix Ecosystem—a connected suite of healthcare platforms that empowers patients before, during, and after care.
Phoenix Health Compass is an AI-powered Healthcare Intelligence and Decision Support Platform that helps patients research providers, compare hospitals, verify credentials, prepare for appointments, understand healthcare information, and make informed healthcare decisions using trusted public data and evidence-informed educational guidance.
Its companion platform, Phoenix Navigator, extends support beyond treatment by helping patients and caregivers confidently navigate recovery through personalized guidance, educational Recovery Centers, practical planning tools, medication and symptom organization, nutrition and wellness resources, caregiver support, AI-powered assistance, and a growing patient community.
Together, the two platforms create the Phoenix Ecosystem—a connected healthcare experience designed to help people move seamlessly from researching care to navigating recovery, empowering them to make informed healthcare decisions before care and confidently navigate recovery afterward.
Beyond her work as a healthcare innovator, Christina is the author of Through the Ashes, a memoir chronicling her journey from surviving septic shock to finding purpose through advocacy. She is a sought-after keynote speaker on healthcare innovation, patient empowerment, self-advocacy, sepsis awareness, resilience, leadership, and transforming adversity into impact. She actively collaborates with healthcare organizations, patient advocacy groups, clinicians, researchers, and technology leaders who share a vision of making healthcare more transparent, accessible, and patient-centered.
Christina's work has been recognized by organizations including Sepsis Alliance, the Global Sepsis Alliance, and Influential Women. She continues to serve in federal public service while leading the growth of the Phoenix Ecosystem, combining public service, technology, and lived experience to improve healthcare for patients everywhere.
Grounded in the values of compassion, integrity, innovation, and service, Christina credits much of her strength and determination to her family—especially her son, who continues to inspire her purpose each day. She is passionate about encouraging others, particularly women and aspiring entrepreneurs, to pursue ambitious goals with courage, resilience, and authenticity while building a strong foundation for lasting success.
Her mission is simple:
No patient or caregiver should ever have to navigate healthcare alone.
Research. Verify. Compare. Prepare. Decide. Recover.
One ecosystem. Every stage of the healthcare journey.

Ten minutes with Christina
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support of my family, a deep sense of purpose, and a commitment to never stop learning. My husband, parents, and especially my son have been my greatest source of strength throughout my journey. After surviving septic shock and rebuilding my life, I became determined to transform adversity into something meaningful. Every challenge has reinforced my belief that resilience, integrity, compassion, and perseverance can turn even life's darkest moments into opportunities to create lasting impact. More than anything, I hope my son sees that setbacks do not define us—our response to them does.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from my father: "Don't quit your day job to chase your dream—build a strong foundation first." He encouraged me to pursue entrepreneurship thoughtfully, develop my vision while maintaining stability, and transition only when the business was ready. That advice has shaped every decision I've made. It taught me that lasting success isn't built overnight—it's built through patience, preparation, continuous learning, and the courage to take calculated risks when the time is right.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't wait until you feel completely ready—start before you have all the answers. Some of the most meaningful opportunities come from being willing to learn as you go. Build a strong foundation, stay curious, and don't be afraid to ask questions or seek mentors.
I've found that women entrepreneurs are incredibly generous with their knowledge and genuinely want to see one another succeed. Instead of viewing other women as competitors, view them as collaborators. Build your network, invest in authentic relationships, and don't underestimate the power of community. Most importantly, believe that your lived experiences have value. Sometimes the best innovations come from solving a problem you've experienced yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in healthcare today is empowering patients with trustworthy, easy-to-understand information. Healthcare has become increasingly complex, and many patients are expected to make life-changing decisions without the tools or knowledge they need. Technology—particularly AI—has the potential to bridge that gap by making healthcare information more accessible, understandable, and actionable.
At the same time, innovation must be balanced with responsibility. Building healthcare technology requires a strong commitment to privacy, security, transparency, and ethical AI. Patients need confidence that their information is protected and that the guidance they receive is rooted in trusted, evidence-informed sources. I believe the future of healthcare isn't just about better technology—it's about building technology that empowers patients while earning their trust.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My life and work are guided by compassion, integrity, service, resilience, transparency, and continuous learning. I believe every decision should begin with one simple question: "Will this genuinely improve someone's life?" That principle shapes how I lead, how I build technology, and how I advocate for patients and caregivers. I believe trust is earned through honesty, empathy, and accountability, and that innovation should always serve people—not the other way around. Above all, I value my family, who remind me every day why this mission matters. I don't see Phoenix Health Compass and Phoenix Navigator as businesses alone—I see them as a lifelong commitment to empowering patients, strengthening healthcare transparency, and ensuring that no one has to navigate healthcare alone.
