About Christina

Christina Johnson is the Graduate and Employment Engagement Manager at Pawsperity, a nonprofit organization in Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to empowering individuals through professional dog grooming education and workforce development. After spending approximately a decade away from the workforce while navigating significant personal challenges, including the loss of her youngest son and a divorce, Christina enrolled in Pawsperity's program as a student. Following her graduation, she gained industry experience before returning to the organization as a Grooming Instructor, eventually advancing into her current leadership role, where she helps graduates transition successfully into meaningful employment.

In her current position, Christina prepares students for long-term career success by providing workforce readiness training focused on résumé development, interview preparation, professional communication, and employment engagement. Drawing from her own journey of resilience and transformation, she equips graduates with the confidence, practical skills, and support needed to thrive in the workplace. Her commitment to empowering others reflects her belief in second chances, compassionate leadership, and creating opportunities that help break cycles of poverty and unemployment. She also holds the AKC Safe Handling credential, demonstrating her expertise and commitment to industry best practices.

Beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, Christina is a passionate advocate for personal growth, mental well-being, and supportive workplace cultures, often sharing and amplifying messages centered on trust, empathy, and leadership. Ten minutes with Christina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success in my career to multiple things, I would say my faith and provision from the Lord, and then also good leadership around me and support system, encouraging me to do the hard thing and step outside my comfort zone, and it's paid off.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say confidence is key. Knowing that you believe in yourself, that has to be the mainstay. You're not going to be successful if you don't believe that you will be. Because whether you believe it or not, that's what you're gonna get. And we believe in you, or you wouldn't be in the seats.
