Cindy Metzger is a children’s book author and storyteller whose gentle, rhyming stories center on themes of friendship, belonging, and emotional growth for children ages 2 to 7. She is the author of “Rocket Gets a Home” and “Rocket Goes to School,” the first two books in her Rocket series, with a third title, “Rocket Goes to the Beach,” currently in progress. Her work is inspired by her beloved Yellow Lab, Rocket, and is designed to create meaningful shared reading experiences between children and the adults who read with them. Her books are available through major online retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes & Noble, as well as independent bookstores such as Chapter 2 Books in Hudson and the Hudson Public Library, and are distributed worldwide through IngramSpark.

Before becoming an author, Cindy built a more than 30-year career in communications and technical writing within the semiconductor industry. Much of her professional work was spent with a semiconductor supply company, where she managed the worldwide online product catalog as a one-person operation for a billion-dollar organization. Her responsibilities included integrating mergers and acquisitions into the product system, enabling global online ordering capabilities, and traveling internationally to train distributors across Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, France, and the United States. Her background also includes extensive experience in marketing communications, content strategy, and global product messaging, developed through senior roles supporting complex, technical industries.

Cindy retired in January 2022, shortly before a deeply personal chapter in her life when her father was diagnosed with cancer. She was able to devote 18 months to his care, accompanying him to appointments and supporting him daily until his passing—an experience that affirmed her decision to step away from corporate work. Following this period, she began writing children’s books inspired by Rocket, her Yellow Lab companion of 12 years who also passed from cancer. A meaningful moment came when a neighbor gifted her a crocheted Yellow Lab doll in Rocket’s memory, which became the seed for her storybook character. Today, Cindy continues to write, publish, and connect with readers through her author website, cindymetzger.com, focusing on stories that reflect love, patience, consistency, and the quiet life lessons found in everyday moments.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of persistence, adaptability, and a strong foundation in both education and hands-on experience. Over a 25-year career in the semiconductor industry, I grew through two key roles that allowed me to develop deep expertise in marketing communications, technical writing, and global product management. I had the opportunity to manage a worldwide online product catalog as a one-person operation within a billion-dollar company, where I was responsible for integrating mergers and acquisitions, maintaining accurate and compelling product content, and supporting global product promotion initiatives. I also traveled internationally to train and support distributors across multiple regions, which strengthened my ability to communicate complex information clearly across diverse audiences. My academic background in marketing and chemistry from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse provided a strong analytical and strategic foundation, while ongoing professional development through technical writing courses and white paper development helped me refine my ability to translate technical concepts into clear, effective messaging.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, compassion, service, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I strive to bring honesty, consistency, and care into everything I do, whether I am developing professional work or creating stories for children. Outside of my career, I place a strong emphasis on giving back to the community, particularly through charitable support of military organizations and involvement with a local dog rescue. These causes reflect my deep respect for service, loyalty, and the well-being of both people and animals. Ultimately, I value work and actions that are grounded in purpose, empathy, and a desire to contribute positively to the world around me.
