01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first to a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to learning. I understood early that simply loving photography was not enough to build a successful professional career. Certification, advanced education, mentorship, technical mastery, and years of hands-on experience gave me the foundation to turn my creativity into professional expertise.
My success also comes from the way I approach people. Active listening, empathy, patience, communication, and genuine relationship building are just as important to me as lighting, composition, and camera technique. I take the time to understand the person in front of me because I believe the most meaningful portraits begin with connection. My clients are not simply subjects; they are people trusting me with important moments and chapters of their lives.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most valuable pieces of advice I received was to pursue professional education and certification through Professional Photographers of America. That experience taught me how to control light, understand my equipment at a deeper level, and consistently create beautiful, flattering portraits. More importantly, it helped me make the transition from someone who simply loved photography to someone who could confidently consider herself a professional.
Mentorship was another defining part of my journey. I found mentors who were willing to share their knowledge and genuinely invest in my growth. Their generosity reinforced my belief that there is room for everyone to succeed and that professionals become stronger when they share knowledge rather than protect it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to get educated, pursue professional certification, and find mentors who genuinely support their growth. Photography may look effortless from the outside, but building a sustainable career requires dedication, business knowledge, technical expertise, patience, and hard work.
I also encourage women and mothers to remember that there is no single timeline for pursuing their dreams. My own journey has shown me that sometimes the right time to begin is when life allows you to give your calling the attention it deserves. Stay humble, continue learning, practice your craft, and surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in photography is the accessibility of modern digital photography, which has opened the door for more people to learn and pursue the craft professionally. At the same time, that accessibility makes it increasingly important for professional photographers to distinguish themselves through education, certification, technical excellence, and an exceptional client experience.
There is also a growing opportunity for photographers to help individuals and businesses tell their stories through imagery. From family and senior portraits to professional headshots and corporate branding, compelling photography has become an important form of communication. I believe photographers have the responsibility and privilege to create images that allow people to be seen, understood, remembered, and celebrated.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My life is grounded in faith, family, generosity, creativity, authenticity, integrity, and service. I believe deeply in treating people with respect and empathy and creating genuine connections with the individuals and families who invite me into their lives.
Giving back is also central to my philosophy, which is why I have embraced a charity-focused approach to my business and support organizations dedicated to children and communities in need. I believe success becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities to serve others and make a difference beyond yourself.
