About Cortnie
Cortnie Doramus is a purpose-driven entrepreneur, community builder, and communications leader dedicated to preserving timeless skills and creating meaningful connections. As the founder of Modern Homestead Idaho, Cortnie is bringing traditional homesteading practices into modern everyday life through experiences that inspire creativity, self-sufficiency, and community.
With a professional background spanning luxury multifamily housing, healthcare coordination, administration, and campus safety, Cortnie has built a reputation for leading with empathy, consistency, and intentional action. Her leadership style is rooted in the belief that strong communities are built through trust, genuine care, and creating spaces where people feel valued and connected.
Before launching Modern Homestead Idaho, Cortnie served as an Assistant Community Manager with Baron Properties, where she was recognized for her resident-focused leadership and nominated three consecutive years as IAA Assistant Manager of the Year. Her experience in operations, relationship management, and communication continues to shape her entrepreneurial approach and ability to bring people together.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Southern New Hampshire University with a degree in Communication, Cortnie has also been recognized for her leadership through the National Society of Leadership and Success. Her diverse experiences have strengthened her ability to connect with people, build meaningful partnerships, and turn ideas into purposeful action.
At her core, Cortnie is passionate about creating spaces where people can learn, grow, and reconnect with the skills and traditions that bring communities together. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to my faith and the guidance of God throughout every season of my life. Each opportunity, challenge, and transition has shaped me into the person and leader I am today, and I believe my purpose is revealed through the ways I am called to serve others.
I also credit much of my growth to the unwavering support of my husband, Brady. His encouragement, partnership, and belief in my vision have given me the confidence to pursue new opportunities and build something meaningful through Modern Homestead Idaho. Entrepreneurship requires courage, patience, and resilience, and having a partner who supports both the vision and the journey has been an incredible blessing.
Beyond faith and family, I believe success comes from staying grounded in authenticity, continuing to learn, and showing up consistently with integrity. My goal has never been simply to achieve milestones, but to create a lasting impact by building connections, serving others, and using the gifts I’ve been given with intention.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to network intentionally and always dress for the role you aspire to have—not just the position you currently hold. That mindset challenged me to see potential in myself before others did and played a significant role in my transition from working in a mechanic shop to building a successful career in property management and leadership.
I also learned that true success is not measured only by professional accomplishments, but by the ability to build a life that reflects your values. One of the most important reminders I’ve carried with me is that no career achievement is worth sacrificing your faith, your family, or your well-being.
Today, as an entrepreneur and founder of Modern Homestead Idaho, I continue to apply that wisdom by pursuing growth with intention, building meaningful relationships, and creating a career that aligns with both my purpose and the life I want to cultivate.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To young women entering this industry: Lead with integrity, clarity, and compassion—because even when your work isn’t loud, it can leave a lasting impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in the modern homesteading space is the growing desire for people to reconnect with intentional living, practical skills, and community. Many people are seeking ways to slow down, become more self-sufficient, and rediscover traditions that have been passed down through generations—but they often don’t know where to begin.
The challenge is making these timeless skills feel approachable and relevant in today’s fast-paced world. Homesteading is not just about rural living or having a large property; it is about creating a more intentional lifestyle through simple practices, creativity, and connection.
Through Modern Homestead Idaho, I see an opportunity to bridge the gap between tradition and modern life by creating welcoming experiences where people can learn, connect, and build confidence in skills they can incorporate into their everyday lives. I believe the future of homesteading is not about returning to the past, but about preserving what matters most while adapting it for the generations to come.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My relationship with Jesus and my family are the most important values in both my work and personal life. My first priority is being obedient to God and keeping Him at the center of everything I do. From there, my greatest desire is to be the best mom and wife I can be, creating a home filled with love, faith, and intentionality.
Those values shape the way I approach my work as well. I want everything I do to reflect my faith, honor my family, and serve others with purpose. At the end of the day, success to me is not just about what I build, but about staying faithful to God and being present for the people He has entrusted to me.
