Ten minutes with Courtney
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to three simple principles. They are relentless curiosity, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to serving others with empathy and authenticity.
Every season of growth, whether navigating complex operational challenges or supporting teams through transition, has taught me that true leadership isn't about having all the answers right away. It is about listening deeply, staying resilient when things get tough, and continually building up the people around you.
By keeping my work rooted in purpose, leading with integrity, and viewing every experience as an opportunity to learn, I have been able to build trusted relationships and make a meaningful impact where it matters most.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"You have management potential, you just need guidance."
My former manager, Janet Wesselhoft, told me this, and it transformed my entire perspective. The most powerful part was that she saw it in me before I saw it in myself. She didn't just offer encouragement, she actively started the process of guiding and developing me into the leader I am today. That experience showed me the true value of mentorship and inspired my own commitment to uplifting, encouraging, and seeing the best in others.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To young women entering home care and HR, my greatest piece of advice is to believe in your capability long before you feel fully ready. Never shrink yourself or wait until you feel completely prepared to step into a bigger role, because true leadership is about adaptability, active listening, and having the courage to ask questions. Trust your instincts, lean into your strengths, and know that your perspective carries value right from day one.
As you navigate the daily demands of compliance, metrics, and operations, always remember the human heart behind every process. Our industry is fundamentally about people. Whether you are supporting a frontline caregiver or managing complex administrative systems, leading with deep empathy changes everything. When you prioritize genuine relationships and treat every individual with grace and respect, operational success naturally follows.
Above all, seek out mentors who see your potential before you even see it in yourself, and be open to their guidance. Growth rarely happens in isolation. Once you find your footing, make it a point to reach back and lift other women up, creating a network of mutual support, encouragement, and shared hope that will sustain you through every season of your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in home care today is balancing the growing demand for compassionate, qualified caregivers with the operational realities of recruitment, retention, and compliance. Across the country, families need reliable support more than ever, yet home care agencies face high caregiver turnover and increasingly complex state and federal guidelines. Finding ways to streamline onboarding, maintain strict compliance, and keep team members engaged without losing the human touch behind the care is a continuous balancing act.
At the same time, this creates our greatest opportunity to transform how we support, value, and empower the workforce behind front-line care. By leveraging better onboarding tools, clear performance tracking, and intentional mentorship, we can build supportive work environments where caregivers feel truly respected and equipped. When we invest deeply in our people, strengthen operational foundations, and lead with empathy, we do not just improve retention and compliance, we elevate the quality of care for every single family we serve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and personal life are faith, integrity, deep empathy, and intentional mentorship.
Faith and integrity serve as my anchor, shaping how I make decisions and show up for others every single day. In both work and life, I believe in leading with total authenticity and operating with a servant heart. I once heard someone say to look at everyone through Jesus' eyes. Because He treated every person He encountered with grace, honesty, and respect, holding myself to that same standard is non-negotiable.
Empathy and intentional mentorship are just as essential. Everything in healthcare and home care ultimately comes down to human connection. I strive to see the potential in people, especially when they might not see it in themselves yet, and to be a source of encouragement and hope. Creating environments where others feel genuinely valued, supported, and empowered to grow is what gives every effort true purpose.
