Her Story

About Courtni

I work as a Master Resilience Trainer and Coach, running my own business for about 2 years now, though resilience training has been embedded in my HR work for about 10 years. My typical day is a juggling act - I maintain a full-time job as an HR professional by day, then in the evenings I'm tweaking my training programs, refining my coaching style, reaching out to people, and looking for networking opportunities, all while being a fully engaged mom. It's really a 12-hour thing balancing all these roles. My focus is on delivering trainings and workshops for corporations and women's empowerment events, teaching people how to be more resilient through skills like assertive communication. I wrote 'Gracefully Assertive, Mastering the Art of Assertive Communication Gracefully,' which gives women a complete system to understand why they either shrink or snap, and provides tools to help them say what they mean, hold their ground, and keep their relationships intact all at the same time. I want women to realize we have our own power - it doesn't have to be loud or rude. We can be powerful, connected, and graceful at the same time. My goal is to be known as the expert in resilience and to have more visibility in that arena.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Being heard and being received are two different things, and to be successful in life, you have to learn both. I wish someone had told me this earlier. We go through life always trying to say what we want to say, say what we need to say, get it out. Sometimes it comes from us not being able to speak up, and we shrink in life, and then as we get older, we finally get the chance to say it. But one of the most important things in being successful in life and building relationships, getting those jobs, and making those connections is truly being heard. But you want to be received as well, because when you are received, that's when the understanding comes in, and it goes both ways.
