Her Story
About Cynthia 'Cindy'
Cynthia De Leon is an author and writer in the Greater Tampa Bay Area who began a new professional chapter after retiring in 2023 following more than 40 years—and approximately 45 years—of experience as a certified paralegal. Her legal career included work in various areas of the legal field, including trial and corporate matters, where she developed expertise in legal writing, grammar, and English-Spanish translation. She holds Paralegal Studies education from Florida International University, an Associate’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Logos University International, and has completed coursework in screenplay writing.
Following her retirement, Cynthia devoted herself to writing and has published three books. Her first published work, Tales and Truths from the Southernmost Point, was released by BookLocker in 2023 and reflects stories connected to her Key West background. She later published A Yankee in Havana, a historical fiction romance written in English and Spanish, through ClassicSubversive Editions, followed by The Pastor, a saga of survival, faith, and redemption. She has also written the screenplay for A Yankee in Havana and submitted it to producers. Her work has earned recognition from the International Impact Book Awards, including an award for The Pastor in August 2026 and recognition for Outstanding Literary Achievement in 2026.
Cynthia is a member of the Tampa Lectors Consortium and has built connections with literary professionals and publishers as she continues developing her craft. Her current work is expanding beyond authorship to include ghostwriting, editing, and mentoring for writers and corporate professionals who can benefit from her extensive legal and corporate experience. She approaches this new chapter with the same principle that guided her earlier career: excellence. Her journey from a decades-long legal career to published author demonstrates her commitment to lifelong growth, creative expression, and pursuing new possibilities at every stage of life.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I attribute my success to the discipline, perseverance, and commitment I developed throughout my more than four decades in the legal profession. Those qualities have continued to guide me as I transition into writing and publishing. I believe that remaining dedicated to growth and being willing to begin a new chapter have allowed me to pursue my passion for writing after retirement.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I believe that any young woman who has decided to enter the legal or literary industries should commit to personal excellence. One must continue to learn and grow in anything one does. This, of course, is not limited to simple industry skill sets, but rather to the way one shows up. There is an enormous amount of competition, and you are being measured and assessed by the way you look, how much knowledge and/or expertise you have, and how pliable you are.␣You have to bend, give, and also take because in any career you are dealing with people from every generation and culture. A woman should know who she is, and that is the strong foundation that has to show in every aspect of her being.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Getting used to a whole new lifestyle. Once I retired from my paralegal career, it took some time to get used to how my new life would be. I've always been a creative, however, being a paralegal showed me how to meet deadlines, check and re-check my work, and produce effective results in a very demanding industry. Attorneys expect nothing less than your best and if you are sloppy, you don't go very far. I became very good in my craft but it did take many years of education and experience both at the federal and state level. Corporate America became my playground. Now, I am "playing" in a totally different field and I'm obsessed. Naturally, I may not have forty plus years but who knows? I have fallen hopelessly in love with my story-telling and I believe I will be doing it for a very long time. I humbly ask the heavens to give me the grace and favor I need to make my readers enjoy and benefit from my writing. What is my challenge? To reach the soul of my readers and help them see light and hope. What are my greatest opportunities? The chance to become a best-seller and a successful screenwriter because I not only write books, I am also a screenwriter.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value excellence in everything I do. It was an important principle throughout my legal career, and it continues to guide me as a writer. I also value perseverance, commitment, personal growth, and the courage to pursue new possibilities, regardless of the stage of life.
