Ten minutes with Dawn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to staying curious, embracing change, and maintaining a lifelong commitment to learning. Over my 30-year career, I have had the opportunity to grow from an assistant at Columbia Pictures into executive leadership roles overseeing areas such as home entertainment distribution, supply chain operations, and digital media. My journey has been shaped by resilience, collaboration, integrity, and a passion for continuous improvement. I believe great leadership comes from empowering people, creating an environment where individuals feel valued and supported, and leading with kindness rather than fear. Remaining open to change and committed to excellence has allowed me to successfully navigate decades of transformation in the entertainment industry.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to never stop learning and never pretend to know everything. I believe there is strength in being honest about what you do not know and having the curiosity and humility to seek answers. Throughout my career, I have learned that asking questions, staying open to new perspectives, and continuously developing my skills are essential to growth and success. A willingness to learn has helped me adapt, lead effectively, and embrace new opportunities throughout my journey.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering my industry to remain authentic, stay kind, and never compromise who they are to fit into an environment that may not always reflect their perspective. It is important to embrace opportunities, ask questions, and have confidence in your abilities. Your individuality, experiences, and leadership style are strengths, and success comes from building a career that aligns with your values while continuing to learn and grow.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe the entertainment industry continues to present incredible opportunities, especially as leadership roles for women have expanded and the industry continues to evolve. Having experienced significant transformation throughout my career, from physical media to digital platforms and streaming, I have seen the importance of adaptability firsthand. The biggest challenge is continuing to navigate rapid technological change while remaining innovative and forward-thinking. The greatest opportunity is being part of an industry that constantly reinvents itself and creates new ways to connect with audiences.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most are loyalty, kindness, integrity, and genuine care for others. I believe the strongest teams are built on trust, respect, and psychological safety, where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, asking questions, and growing without fear. My leadership approach is centered on supporting others and creating an environment where people can do their best work. Outside of my professional role, I value service and giving back, whether through supporting my community, teaching, or helping others. I also recognize the importance of self-care and maintaining balance after many years of dedicating myself to my career and the people around me.
