Her Story

About DeAnne

DeAnne N. Dwight is a Tucson-based nursing leader, educator, and integrative health and wellness coach who has dedicated her career to helping people achieve greater health and well-being. A nurse since 2010, she has built broad clinical experience across cardiac care, emergency medicine, and behavioral health and currently serves as an Interim Director of Nursing and Nurse Manager. She has also taught behavioral health and mental health courses at the university level and worked with adults living with severe mental illness, helping them develop practical skills around wellness, nutrition, exercise, and self-care. In 2020, she completed integrative health and wellness coaching training through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and continues to mentor and teach in the field while maintaining a private coaching practice through Rein Integrative Health Coaching.

Dwight's approach to leadership and patient care is deeply influenced by her military experience and more than 26 years in the recovery community. From her time in the Marine Corps, she carries forward the principles of honor, courage, and commitment, while her recovery journey has reinforced the importance of honesty, hope, faith, and integrity. These values guide her work in healthcare, where she advocates for a more holistic understanding of wellness that addresses the whole person rather than relying solely on medication or treatment after a problem emerges. She is passionate about helping nurses recognize the opportunities that their credentials can create and encourages them to pursue roles where they can bring their strengths, values, and authentic selves to their work. She also remains mindful of the challenges facing healthcare, including staffing shortages, increasingly complex patient needs, and limitations within for-profit systems that can make preventative and holistic resources difficult to access.

Outside of her professional life, Dwight embraces the beauty and adventure of the Arizona desert and treasures time with her family. She enjoys photography, capturing the landscapes and vibrant scenery around Tucson, as well as swimming with her grandchildren, camping, and riding quads through rugged terrain. At home, she finds joy in cooking and making sourdough bread from scratch. Whether she is leading a nursing team, mentoring another professional, coaching someone toward healthier habits, or simply spending time with her grandchildren, Dwight brings the same philosophy to each part of her life: people have an incredible capacity to heal, grow, and overcome challenges, especially when they have someone willing to walk alongside them.

01What do you attribute your success to?

The lowest part of my life gave me experiences and momentum like a roller coaster valley pushing up the hill, along with a foundation of faith and giving back through the recovery community, showing up with integrity for others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Those letters after your name give you the opportunity to do anything, so if you are not enjoying what you are doing, go do something else to be the best you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to strive to become the best version of themselves, remain authentic to who they are, and pursue what they truly love. I believe that staying true to yourself and following what genuinely inspires you can lead to meaningful and fulfilling work.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Staffing shortages with sicker people, and navigating for-profit healthcare that limits resources for preventative and holistic approaches like health coaching.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honor, courage, and commitment from the Marine Corps, combined with honesty, hope, and faith from recovery programs, building integrity especially in life-or-death medical situations.
