About Deborah

Deborah D. Williams is the founder of Sister, Can You Hear Me Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women, families, and underserved individuals through advocacy, outreach, and compassionate service. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Deborah has devoted her work to addressing domestic violence, homelessness, food insecurity, and other challenges affecting vulnerable members of the community. What began as a desire to create a better future for herself developed into a lifelong mission to help others find hope, stability, and the resources they need to move forward.

Through Sister, Can You Hear Me Foundation, Deborah leads community outreach initiatives that provide food, clothing, hygiene supplies, emergency assistance, and resource navigation to individuals and families in need. She advocates for survivors of domestic violence and works to connect them with support while building relationships with community leaders, businesses, churches, and organizations. Her organization has obtained 501(c)(3) status and expanded its reach through additional nonprofit chapters. Deborah also brings experience as a retired daycare facility owner, giving her a strong foundation in caring for children and families and understanding the importance of meeting people where they are.

Deborah’s dedication to service has earned her recognition through a Positively Jax Award nomination and features on radio and television programs highlighting her community advocacy. She is also a public speaker, church ministry volunteer, community outreach leader, and author who uses her voice to encourage women and raise awareness about domestic violence and other issues affecting families. Her published works include Stop Hiding in the Shadows: It's Okay to Come Out and How to Know You're in a Narcissist Relationship. Guided by faith, compassion, and personal experience, Deborah remains committed to expanding her impact, including her goal of establishing a transitional home for women and families in Jacksonville.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Deborah

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to simply being myself, connecting with people, and genuinely looking for ways to help. By asking, “How can I serve you?” and meeting people where they are, I’ve built meaningful relationships and created opportunities to make a positive impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to get out of my own way and recognize the value of my voice and experiences. My mentor has helped me see that what I’ve been through, including my experiences with domestic violence, can empower and inspire other women.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women is to never be afraid to speak up or ask for help. Find someone you trust who can be a source of support and guidance, and don’t hesitate to lean on that person when you need it. You don’t have to navigate every challenge alone—asking for help is a strength.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see opportunities in getting out, connecting with people, and raising awareness about the work we do. One of the biggest challenges is securing funding and helping more people recognize our organization and its mission. My goal is to open a transitional home for women and families in Jacksonville, and finding the resources to make that vision a reality remains a key challenge.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value empathy, resilience, and using my experiences to support and encourage others. My work surrounding domestic violence has given me a perspective that I can use to empower other women, and I believe in turning personal experiences into meaningful support for those who may be facing similar challenges.
