I spent years planning how to write Mindset Architects. One ordinary day I stopped over-planning and told myself, "Deb, just write the damn story!"

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Debra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to purpose, resilience, and a commitment to creating opportunities and resources that I did not have earlier in my career. My experiences shaped my understanding of the importance of having a voice and the ability to influence positive change, which inspired me to build what was missing and help others avoid some of the challenges I encountered. I have intentionally built my career around teaching, mentoring, influencing, and empowering others to recognize their own potential and use their experiences to make a difference. For me, influence was not something that was simply given; it was something I earned and built through my professional experiences, my book, and my work as a software company founder.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my boss while we were driving home from a major meeting in Cleveland. He told me, “You’re very good at what you do. Don’t stop doing it, and never think that you don’t belong.” Those words stayed with me throughout my career, especially because I was only 20 years old at the time and did not have mentors or a strong support system to guide me. His encouragement gave me confidence in my abilities and reinforced the importance of believing in my own value, even when I questioned whether I belonged. It became a guiding principle that has shaped how I approach my career and how I encourage others to recognize their own potential.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are health, balance, discipline, and maintaining an active lifestyle. I enjoy playing golf, swimming, and participating in a variety of athletic activities that help me stay healthy and energized. Staying physically active is an important part of my overall well-being and allows me to maintain the focus, consistency, and balance I bring to both my professional and personal life.
