Dr. Denise Barton, PhD, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, is a distinguished educator, consultant, and organizational development strategist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. She serves as President and CEO of Fuzion Effect, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations navigate complex challenges in leadership, human resources, and culture. With extensive experience in HR leadership, organizational change, and talent development, Dr. Barton partners with businesses and institutions to create inclusive, high-performing workplaces that foster employee engagement and sustainable growth.

In addition to her consulting practice, Dr. Barton is a Senior Professor of Business Administration at Wake Technical Community College and an adjunct professor at Campbell University. She has over two decades of experience teaching business and human resource management, developing curriculum, mentoring students, and leading study-abroad programs. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes practical problem-solving, leadership development, and preparing students to thrive in dynamic organizational environments.

Dr. Barton holds a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Northcentral University (now National University) and an MBA from Campbell University. She is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), a SHRM-SCP credential holder, and a certified NLP practitioner and emotional intelligence facilitator. Balancing consulting, teaching, and leadership roles has taught me how to adapt and remain solutions-focused in every environment.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve received is to pace myself and know when to step back, rather than always pushing forward. It has allowed me to maintain longevity in my career and focus on strategic, high-impact work.

Seek mentorship early, invest in your professional development, and develop strong interpersonal skills. Learning how to navigate organizational dynamics and understanding the importance of pacing yourself are critical to long-term success.

Organizations are navigating significant challenges around inclusion and engagement. At the same time, there is a tremendous opportunity to build workplace cultures that invest in talent development, leadership growth, and generational workforce integration.
