She also maintains a principal's administrative license and a teaching license. She credits much of her professional success to the influential women in her life, particularly her grandmother, who worked at the docks during World War II, and her mother, who entered the workforce when Desiree was young. Their examples helped shape her appreciation for perseverance, leadership, and meaningful work.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Desiree enjoys an active and creative lifestyle. She regularly rides her e-bike around the Greater Portland area, plays pickleball, and enjoys solving puzzles. She especially values time at her home on the Oregon coast, where she finds peace and has recently embraced hands-on home improvement projects, challenging herself to learn new skills and take on tasks she once thought required a professional. Desiree also supports educational initiatives and contributes to organizations including Friends of the Children and the Humane Society, reflecting her commitment to education, community, and service.

Ten minutes with Desiree
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the influential women in my life, especially my grandmother, who worked at the docks during World War II, and my mother, who entered the workforce when I was young after my father lost his job. Their strength, resilience, and determination have deeply inspired me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My father taught me that my words can make people feel seen, heard, and valued. He encouraged me to speak with kindness, love, and understanding while maintaining healthy boundaries.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to be mindful of the stories they tell themselves when entering unfamiliar or male-dominated spaces. Stay grounded in who you are, trust your perspective, and remain connected to your own truth.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe one of the biggest challenges and opportunities in any field is maintaining balance—prioritizing mental, physical, and family well-being while pursuing professional goals.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value hopefulness, resilience, and kindness in both my personal and professional life. I also believe in being direct, but always communicating with kindness, honesty, and respect.
