Her Story
About Desiree
I've been working in media for about 7 years now, and I'm currently an Associate Client Success Manager at Samsung Ads, where I've been for about a year. I schedule campaigns on Samsung televisions and work in a hybrid role, going into the office at Penn Station 3 days a week. My day-to-day involves a lot of client interaction via email, scheduling calls, taking in new RFPs (requests for proposals), building media plans, and processing IOs in our internal systems. I also touch base with internal teams to make sure everything is executed properly. Before Samsung, I spent about 4 years at Warner Brothers Discovery as a Sales Planner, managing campaigns and scheduling commercials on 17 networks like Food Network, TLC, and Discovery. I was on the Engage team, which covered all the networks they had in-house. Prior to that, I worked at the Walt Disney Company in their ad sales department as a sales planner, and my entry-level role was as a sales assistant at Discovery before they merged with Warner Brothers. What really drove me to this field was my passion for the Food Network. When I was in college with a mass communication and journalism focus, I was also interested in the culinary aspect of things, and I really wanted to work for the Food Network. Working at Discovery gave me that foot in the door to work for the Food Network, even though it was on the advertising side of things.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Desiree
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say just a go-getter mindset and also a positive mindset. Every single day I wake up and I'm looking at the bright side of things, and I always try to keep a busy schedule. Like, okay, I started working, but you know what? Let's go back to school, too. Here I am working in my field for 7 years, but you know what? Like, let's go back to school and see what else we can do. I think just being really motivated to be the best version of yourself can really push you to do the things that you always wanted to do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I think the best career advice I've ever received is just to don't be afraid to ask questions. It's always better, I think, to ask rather than to assume. And, like they say, like, there's no stupid questions. People around you could have the same question in mind, and by asking it, you're giving not only yourself answers, but people around you answers as well. So it's something I've always kept in the back of my mind, like, you know, ask the question, don't be afraid.
