Diane Martinez: An influential woman is someone who no longer apologizes for having a voice in using it.
What does being an Influential Woman mean to you?
Diane Martinez: An influential woman is someone who no longer apologizes for having a voice in using it. An influential woman doesn't need anyone else's approval or permission to shine. She recognizes her own worth and stands confidently in that place. An influential woman is a way shower. She doesn't see herself as better than someone else or superior to other people or other women, but she is a way shower. She lights the path of how this is done in this world. She empowers other young women to come behind her so that they too can become an influential woman.
What's one piece of advice you would give to younger women chasing their dreams?
Diane Martinez: The advice I would give to younger women following their dreams is to develop a practice to help you tune into your intuition. Because as you make your way in the world, there are a number of people, influencers around you who will be giving you advice, who will be telling you what you should do. And if you are not able to tap into your own intuition, into your higher self, to see if that aligns with what your heart wants. Then you are just being blown about by whatever the advice of the day is. That will leave you feeling confused, um, with no sense of clarity or purpose. So, develop maybe a meditation practice, a stillness practice, maybe get some coaching to help you tune into your own inner guidance, your own inner GPS that as you make your way in the world, you can always refer to, to see if the choices, the options before you are in alignment with that. So, yes, you can get advice from other people. Yes, you can. Gather some opinions, but you don't count on them for your decisions. You can become your own authority.

Ten minutes with Diane
01What do you attribute your success to?
I feel like if, to whatever degree I am good at what I do, it is because I have stepped on every single landmine and pothole on the path. I didn't really have a specific guide or person that helped me with this - I was just crawling my way through the journey. But I definitely was not on my own, and there was divine guidance for sure on my behalf. I navigated a lot of it through deep inquiry. The first book I read was Eckhart Tolle's 'A New Earth,' and it was something I feel like my soul called me toward. It wasn't like, gee, I think it's time for another book. It was just like, give me more - I need to understand, there's much more here to life than I've ever been led to believe. I did a lot of reading. Through my separation and divorce, I saw a family therapist and counselor for 2 years to get me through that, and I say that confidently, because there are times when we need that in our lives. I had one good buddy that really helped me - she appeared in my life just as I left my marriage, and then disappeared just after I got remarried 5 years later. She was like my little angel that came on my path. That was mainly how I got through it, and just believing that core belief that we are loved and guided, that we are meant to be deeply satisfied and not always in the energy of struggle and lack. That undercurrent of trust and belief is what really guided the whole process.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received to date is from my mentor, Alan Cohen, who counseled his life coaching students to "follow the good feeling thoughts." Many might roll their eyes at the simplicity of that advice, but it has helped me tune into my inner guidance, and not overly rely on what the "experts" say we should do.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I absolutely believe that when our heart's desire is to be fully actualized, to serve, to use our gifts and talents in a way that uplifts other people and also ourselves in the process, we are guided and those next steps do light up for us. I think our factory settings - the things that we want, the peace, the clarity, the confidence, that deep, abiding sort of 'I'm glad I'm here' feeling - babies have that. So for my clients, it's not a reaching out into the world to get something they don't have, it's a remembering of what they are. Being able to hold space for paradox is very powerful - just to let that be and ease people in their own personal journeys. I love empowering people, that is my favorite thing in the whole wide world. The ability to meet someone where they are, not where you wish they were, and to be able to meet them on their terms and help them from where they are, with no preconceived notions or a specific agenda - that's a huge thing that I bring to my clients. We are body, mind, and spirit, and when we ignore two of those and just go for goals like what job, what car, what house you want, there is so much more to life. That's not the way to a deeply rewarding and meaningful life.
