About Dr. Adriana
My Accomplishments as Principal of RISE Academy School of Science and Technology
Throughout my years as principal of RISE Academy School of Science and Technology, I have dedicated myself to building a school culture where academic excellence, innovation, and student achievement are at the center of everything we do. As a charter school serving a predominantly African American student population, including many students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, RISE Academy has demonstrated that every child can succeed when provided with high expectations, meaningful learning opportunities, and dedicated educators. Under my leadership, our school has earned numerous recognitions, including straight A ratings, High-Performing School status, and School of Excellence recognition. We are also proud to be one of the few schools certified as a Certified STEM School, reflecting our commitment to providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Furthermore, RISE Academy has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top schools in Florida. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families, as well as our unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for every student.
One of my greatest accomplishments has been establishing a strong academic foundation that prepares students to become critical thinkers, problem-solvers, innovators, and lifelong learners. I have worked diligently to strengthen instruction, expand STEM opportunities, and promote the effective use of educational programs and resources to support student achievement. Our students' success extends beyond the classroom, as demonstrated by earning second place in the Broward County Math Competition and receiving several awards at the Southeast Florida STEM Competition hosted by Florida Atlantic University (FAU), which serves students in grades 4–12. These achievements demonstrate our commitment to challenging students to excel academically, apply their knowledge to real-world problems, and develop the skills necessary for future success. I believe that academic excellence begins with meaningful relationships between teachers and students, because children learn best when they feel supported, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential. My leadership emphasizes high expectations, accountability, continuous improvement, and the belief that a student's background should never determine the limits of their future.
Beyond our school's academic achievements, I consider it a privilege to inspire others and demonstrate what is possible through determination, perseverance, and a commitment to education. I am especially proud of helping educators grow professionally, encouraging women and mothers to pursue their educational goals, and motivating students—particularly girls—to explore STEM fields and envision careers they may have never considered. Being selected as one of Florida's Top 10 Principals for the 2025–2026 school year is a meaningful recognition of my dedication to educational excellence and leadership. My journey as an educator who immigrated to the United States and pursued her dreams has reinforced my belief that challenges can become opportunities for growth. My greatest legacy is not simply the awards our school has received, but the lives we have impacted, the dreams we have encouraged, and the opportunities we have created for our students and school community. I remain committed to ensuring that RISE Academy continues to be a place where excellence is expected, innovation is encouraged, and every student is empowered to achieve their dreams.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence, determination, and an unwavering belief in myself and my ability to achieve my goals. Throughout my personal and professional journey, I have learned that success does not happen overnight; it requires hard work, patience, and the courage to keep moving forward, even when obstacles seem overwhelming. As an educator and principal, I have faced challenges that required me to step outside my comfort zone, make difficult decisions, and find solutions when things did not go as planned. Rather than allowing difficulties to discourage me, I have used them as opportunities to learn, grow, and become a stronger leader. I believe that setbacks are not failures but valuable lessons that help us discover new ways to succeed.
Another important factor in my success is developing a clear plan and taking consistent action to turn my vision into reality. I believe that having a dream is only the beginning; we must establish goals, identify the steps needed to accomplish them, and remain focused on the desired outcome. As principal of RISE Academy School of Science and Technology, I have worked to create a vision centered on academic excellence, STEM education, and opportunities for every student to succeed. Achieving our school's accomplishments has required strategic planning, high expectations, collaboration, and continuous evaluation of our progress. I have learned that when we establish a strong plan, remain flexible, and commit ourselves to following through, even the most ambitious goals become attainable.
Finally, I attribute much of my success to believing in myself, even when the journey was difficult or others might have doubted what was possible. As a woman who immigrated to the United States and pursued her dreams in a new country, I understand the courage it takes to start over, overcome barriers, and build a future through hard work and determination. I have never allowed my circumstances or the challenges I faced to define my potential. Instead, I have reminded myself that with dedication, continuous learning, and faith in my abilities, I can accomplish things that once seemed out of reach. This belief guides not only my own journey but also the way I lead and inspire others. I want my students, teachers, and community to understand that when you believe in yourself, develop a plan, and persist through challenges, you give yourself the opportunity to turn your dreams into reality.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is reflected in a phrase attributed to Lao Tzu: “Silence is a source of great strength.” I believe that some of the most powerful lessons in leadership come from learning when to speak and when to remain silent. Throughout my career as an educator and principal, I have learned that leadership is not about always having the last word or proving that you are right. It is about listening carefully, observing situations, understanding different perspectives, and responding with wisdom rather than emotion. Silence gives us the opportunity to reflect before making decisions, especially when we face challenging situations or difficult conversations.
Another important lesson that has shaped my professional journey came from Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, who inspired me to understand the importance of persistence and standing firmly behind what I believe in. His example reinforced my conviction that meaningful goals require determination, courage, and the willingness to continue moving forward, even when the path becomes difficult. Throughout my career, I have learned that we must have the courage to defend our principles, remain committed to our vision, and never abandon our goals simply because others disagree with us or because we encounter obstacles. As a principal, I have applied this philosophy by remaining focused on what is best for our students, advocating for educational excellence, and continuing to work toward our school's goals, even when the process has been challenging.
Ultimately, these lessons have taught me that true leadership requires both the wisdom to remain silent and the courage to persevere in what we believe is right. Silence allows us to listen, reflect, and respond thoughtfully, while persistence gives us the strength to stand by our principles and continue working toward our goals. Throughout my professional journey, I have learned to trust my judgment, develop a clear plan, and let my actions and accomplishments speak for themselves. There will always be criticism, misunderstandings, and challenges, but we should not allow them to distract us from our purpose. I believe that when we combine self-confidence, thoughtful reflection, and unwavering determination, we become stronger leaders. These principles continue to guide me as an educator and principal, reminding me that success is not simply about reaching a destination; it is about remaining faithful to our values and having the courage to keep moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the field of education is to believe in yourselves, pursue your dreams with determination, and never allow anyone to convince you that your goals are beyond your reach. As women, we sometimes face challenges that make us question our abilities or feel that we must work harder to prove ourselves. My own journey as a woman who immigrated to the United States and built a career in education has taught me that our beginnings do not determine our endings. You do not need to have all the answers when you start, but you must be willing to learn, grow, and persevere. Education is a profession that requires passion, patience, courage, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Never be afraid to dream big, take risks, or pursue leadership positions because you believe you are not ready. Sometimes, we discover our greatest strengths when we step outside our comfort zones.
My second piece of advice is to develop a clear vision, establish a plan, and remain persistent even when the journey becomes difficult. Success does not happen overnight, and there will be moments when you experience disappointment, criticism, or self-doubt. Do not allow these challenges to define you or discourage you from moving forward. Instead, learn from your mistakes, seek opportunities for professional development, surround yourself with people who encourage your growth, and never stop expanding your knowledge. As a woman in educational leadership, you must understand that being a leader does not mean knowing everything; it means being willing to listen, make difficult decisions, accept responsibility, and stand firmly behind your principles. Most importantly, do not feel that you must sacrifice your values to succeed. Lead with integrity, treat others with respect, and remember that your greatest influence comes from the example you set every day.
Finally, I encourage young women to use their success to open doors for others. Throughout my career as a principal, I have learned that leadership is not measured only by awards, recognitions, or professional titles, but by the lives we transform and the opportunities we create for others. Encourage other women, mentor those who are beginning their careers, and help students—especially girls—believe that they can pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and educational leadership. Never underestimate the power of encouraging someone who is afraid to take the next step. I have seen women who once doubted their ability to return to college accomplish their dreams and become classroom teachers. Their journeys remind me that sometimes all a person needs is someone who believes in them. My message to young women is simple: Believe in yourself, work hard, remain persistent, and never forget your purpose. You are not here simply to occupy a position; you are here to make a difference, inspire others, and leave the world better than you found it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
As a woman who immigrated to the United States in my thirties, I understand firsthand the challenges of starting over in a new country. I already had three degrees from my home country, yet I had to learn a new language, adapt to a different culture, rebuild my professional career, and support my family. It was not an easy journey, but I never allowed my circumstances to define my potential. I learned that when you have a clear goal, develop a plan, and are willing to work hard, you can overcome obstacles and accomplish your objectives. My personal experience has taught me that determination, persistence, and a willingness to learn are essential to achieving success.
One of the biggest challenges in education today is ensuring that every student has access to high-quality educational opportunities, regardless of their background or economic circumstances. Educators must also adapt to rapidly changing technology, including artificial intelligence, while ensuring that students continue to develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and independent learning skills. As a principal, I believe we must embrace innovation while maintaining meaningful connections between teachers and students. Technology should enhance learning, not replace the human relationships, guidance, and intellectual development that are essential to a child's success. We must also continue to encourage more girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), preparing them for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities in education, particularly in our ability to empower students and transform lives through knowledge, innovation, and strong leadership. As educators, we have the opportunity to help students discover their talents, develop their confidence, and envision futures they may never have imagined possible. We must also support teachers and encourage women, especially those who may believe it is too late to pursue their dreams, to continue their education and seek leadership opportunities. My own journey is proof that starting over does not mean starting from nothing; it means building on the knowledge, experiences, and strengths you already possess. I believe that when we combine education, determination, a clear vision, and hard work, we can overcome barriers and create opportunities not only for ourselves but also for future generations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, perseverance, compassion, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to helping others. I believe that success means very little if we do not use our knowledge, experience, and opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Throughout my journey as an educator and as a woman who immigrated to the United States and started over in a new country, I have learned the importance of remaining true to my principles, working hard, and never giving up on my dreams. I believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect, listening before judging, and recognizing the potential in people even when they may not yet recognize it in themselves. These values guide my decisions, shape my relationships, and remind me that our character is reflected not only in what we accomplish but also in how we treat others along the way.
As the principal of RISE Academy School of Science and Technology, I strive to lead with integrity, fairness, accountability, and a strong belief in every child's potential. I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to transform lives and create opportunities for future generations. My responsibility is not simply to ensure academic achievement, but also to create an environment where students feel valued, teachers feel supported, and families feel welcomed as essential partners in education. I believe that meaningful relationships, high expectations, and compassion must work together to help students succeed. For me, leadership is not about a title or recognition; it is about serving others, making difficult decisions when necessary, and remaining committed to doing what is best for children.
My commitment to service extends beyond my role as a principal. As the founder of www.helpayuda123.org, a free educational website, I have worked to expand access to educational resources and opportunities for students, families, and communities. I believe that access to learning should not be limited by a family's financial circumstances or background. Through this initiative, I hope to help more people discover the power of education and find resources that support their growth and success. Ultimately, my greatest values are reflected in my desire to empower others, encourage people to pursue their dreams, and help create a world where everyone has the opportunity to learn and thrive. Whether I am leading a school, supporting a family, encouraging a woman to return to college, or developing educational resources, my purpose remains the same: to serve with compassion, lead with integrity, and use education to open doors that might otherwise remain closed.
