Duana Love, P.E., TSSP, is a highly accomplished multimodal transportation engineer with a 35-year career dedicated to advancing transportation safety, mobility, and innovation. After earning her degree in civil engineering from Bradley University, she began her professional journey with the Illinois Department of Transportation, where she built a foundation in infrastructure and safety planning. Her career expanded to include leadership roles at the Regional Transportation Authority of Northeastern Illinois and the U.S. Department of Transportation in Chicago, where she specialized in safety certification, system oversight, and multimodal planning.
Throughout her career, Duana has demonstrated exceptional expertise in transportation safety planning, hazard management, and regulatory compliance for rail, transit, and highway systems. She played a key role in implementing safety legislation and advancing public mobility initiatives across the Midwest. Her leadership extends beyond her professional roles—she serves as a commissioner on Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Blue Ribbon Commission, advising on financial and policy frameworks that shape the future of state transportation systems.
Now transitioning from government service to the private sector, Duana is channeling her deep expertise into a new civil engineering venture focused on transportation and mobility solutions. Her passion for safety, equity, and innovation continues to drive her mission of improving how people move and connect. Inspired by early encouragement from her math and engineering teachers at Chicago’s Whitney Young Magnet High School, Duana remains a strong advocate for STEM education and a role model for the next generation of engineers and transportation professionals.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, I value patience, problem-solving, and connection. I love doing jigsaw puzzles with my daughters—a physical therapist and a college senior—as it’s a relaxing way to bond while methodically working together from the borders inward, letting color patterns guide our progress.
