I've been working in marketing for over 5 years now, and I'm currently a Senior Media Planner at Horizon Media, where I've been for over 3 years. In my role, I work across different clients and run various campaigns for them. My day-to-day involves checking dashboards to see how campaigns are performing across different channels, addressing client concerns immediately, reviewing daily reports, communicating with different publishers, and doing quality assurance to make sure everything is running smoothly. Before Horizon Media, I worked as a Marketing Coordinator for the U.S. Open for 7 months, where I was in charge of the marketing strategy here in New York. Prior to that, I worked at two other media agencies as a Senior Affiliate Account Manager, running campaigns across affiliate marketing. At the first agency, I focused on the Latin market, and then I switched to another agency where I worked with different publishers and clients across Latin America. Beyond my corporate work, I volunteer as a Marketing Manager for a non-profit organization here in New York that provides STEM education, where I run all the marketing strategy. I'm passionate about what I do and believe in working on something you truly love. I wasn't born in the United States - I immigrated here when I was young without knowledge of the language, went straight to school, and through hard work, I've gotten to where I am today.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work, definitely. I wasn't born here in the United States, so I immigrated here when I was young without knowledge or even the language. I went straight to school, and I think because of my hard work, I'm right now where I am, and I'm expecting, you know, hopefully in the future to be even better, in a better position. I think being a super hard-working person is really important. I never let other people lay me down, so I think that's what I would say in this case.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received so far is to always keep working on what you actually want to achieve, and also work in something that you love to do. Right now, I feel like people just work because they want to work or they need to work, but one of my mentors told me, no, you have to work because you love and you feel passionate about what you're doing. I think that's one of the best advice that I have ever received. Right now, I love marketing in general, so I think that's the field that I want to stay on. And of course, I want to keep learning, growing professionally. Just do whatever you really feel passionate about it.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say learn as much as you can, and then start putting in practice what you're learning while you are growing professionally. I think always be open to learn new things from people who actually know much more than you, so I think that's very important. Don't be stuck on one specific thing, just always be super open-minded in terms of, you know, maybe your co-worker knows more than you, so please take advantage of that one, and try to learn from that person, from your manager, director. The advice that I would say is always keep learning, and keep receiving opinion, because when someone gives you a feedback or opinion, I think that's definitely something that can help you to shape your professional career as well.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In terms of challenges, I think in this country where you can see a lot of culture, understanding everyone's different perspective and opinion has been a challenge sometimes. Of course, everyone thinks differently, but you have to listen to people and see their perspective. Sometimes it's not easy because you have to really understand everyone's opinion, and sometimes people are not like that - they don't want to even listen or agree with whatever you're saying. In a country where we have a mix of culture, sometimes it's quite difficult to understand everyone's culture. As for opportunities, I think in my field, which is marketing, we have a lot of opportunity because marketing is super vast. You can do digital marketing, outside marketing. There is plenty of opportunity. However, I do think you must still go for those opportunities. Don't wait for that opportunity to come to you. You have to take those opportunities, be always looking, always learning new things, because digital marketing or marketing is always growing. There is plenty of opportunity, as long as you take them and learn and keep growing. But again, you have to seize them. Don't wait for them to come to you.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The first one is always be kind. Being empathetic is important as well. I always listen, so I never try to avoid conversations. I feel like communication is important, so I always try to listen to people. Don't ever let someone just go and you don't want to listen to that person. I think listening is really important.
