What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a strong commitment to continuous growth. During my 27 years as a teacher and school principal, I lived by the belief that complacency limits progress, so I consistently challenged myself both professionally and personally.
After retiring from education, I carried that mindset into new ventures, including jet fuel and crude oil brokering and e-commerce. Staying curious and open to change has allowed me to adapt, grow, and seize new opportunities.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that complacency is the enemy of growth. It’s a silent barrier that keeps you in your comfort zone and prevents both personal and professional development. That perspective has continually pushed me to stay proactive, keep learning, and seek out new challenges.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to set clear goals and remain resilient, even in the face of adversity. Seek out strong mentors and surround yourself with a community of like-minded individuals who support your growth. Just as importantly, invest in networking and focus on building meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in jet fuel and crude oil brokering is the complexity of the industry, combined with its traditionally male-dominated environment. However, this also presents a significant opportunity. As the industry evolves, there is growing space for women to enter, bring fresh perspectives, and establish themselves in a field where diverse leadership is increasingly valued.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, integrity, and accountability. I also place a high value on determination and collaboration, as they are essential for growth and success. Above all, I prioritize maintaining strong, meaningful relationships with my family and friends, as they provide the foundation and support behind everything I do.
