Her Story
About Grace
I've been working in education since 2013, and my passion for this field was ignited during a study abroad experience in South Africa where I studied education and social change. We traveled to different types of schools - private, public, city urban schools versus schools in the country - and there were such vast differences across education depending on class. That experience made me feel really passionate about the inequalities of education in the world. Growing up right outside of New York City, I knew there were similar inequalities here, so my whole entire career has been based on really providing equal access to students around New York City, specifically in areas in the Bronx. Now I'm scaling my work across all of New York City through enriching after-school programs. I studied education and educational studies at Jennison University, focusing on pedagogical approaches and different types of schools, and then got my graduate degree at Touro College in 2015. Most of what I've learned has come from my career experiences working directly with students and communities.

Ten minutes with Grace
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would just say to go with your gut and lead with empathy. That has always been my North Star - you don't know where people are coming from, and really being a listener first is something that I would always advise anyone going into this field.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Professionally, my values are growth and supporting my staff - making sure that all feel like they're able to grow and do the work together. I'm extremely collaborative and work very well in teams, making sure that I'm empowering the people around me to do their best work. Personally, I'm a new mom with a nine-month-old, and I'm very heavily involved with my family, making sure that I give them the most of myself as I can.
