Her Interview
Ten minutes with Holly
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to learning through experience, building strong relationships, and staying passionate about creating memorable experiences. I started volunteering with an event planning company at 15, which introduced me to hospitality and event production. From serving and bartending in college to moving into restaurant management and eventually becoming an Event Manager at Republic Hospitality, I have grown by continuously learning, adapting, and taking on new challenges. My passion for planning, celebrating people, and bringing ideas to life has guided my career and helped me create meaningful experiences for clients.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to grow my backbone. Being kind and a people person are valuable qualities, but they can only take you so far. I have learned that it is important to stand up for myself, set boundaries, and be confident in my decisions. Not everyone will always be happy with me, and that is okay. Learning how to handle those situations and protect my time and energy has helped me grow professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to speak up. We often get overlooked or underestimated for listening before reacting. Be sure your voice is heard!
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
My biggest challenge in this field and town is "what sets us apart" in Charleston? Our town is so saturated with event planners and venues; my goal is to stand out in a way that captures guests' attention and shows that our company is flexible. Luckily, there is a strong team environment of women in this town that can rely on each other for guidance and partnerships.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are connection, community, and creating meaningful experiences with others. I enjoy bringing people together, whether through networking events, pop-ups, trivia nights, live music events, or simply spending quality time with friends. I value building relationships, staying engaged with my community, and finding joy in shared experiences. Outside of work, I love being active and spending time outdoors with my pets, including playing disc golf and exploring new places with the people around me.
