Her Interview

Ten minutes with Holly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to the exceptional mentors who have guided and inspired me throughout my career. Their leadership, support, and example have helped me better understand my role, strengthen my professional capabilities, and grow into a more effective leader. Equally important have been the relationships I've built within my industry, which have provided invaluable opportunities for learning and collaboration. I also believe in the importance of continuous professional development, and pursuing advanced education and industry designations through CAI has further enhanced my knowledge, skills, and ability to serve my profession with confidence and excellence.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to truly listen to people. Often, when someone reaches out, they simply want to be heard, even if the issue they're raising cannot be fully resolved. Taking the time to listen with empathy and understanding builds trust, strengthens relationships, and demonstrates genuine respect for others. I've found that making people feel heard can be just as impactful as finding a solution, and it has become a guiding principle in both my leadership style and professional interactions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to prioritize listening before speaking. Take the time to fully understand the people, the situation, and the challenges at hand so that when you contribute, your ideas and insights are thoughtful, informed, and impactful. Don't be afraid to share your voice or advocate for your perspective, but ensure your contributions come from a place of understanding and expertise rather than reacting too quickly. By listening carefully, continuously learning, and speaking with confidence and purpose, you will earn credibility, build strong professional relationships, and establish yourself as a trusted leader.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the community association field right now is helping people understand that strong communities do not happen by accident — they require education, collaboration, financial responsibility, and engaged leadership. Many associations are facing rising costs, volunteer fatigue, changing laws, and increased expectations from homeowners, which creates both pressure and opportunity. The opportunity is to bring board members, managers, business partners, and local leaders together in a more meaningful way so communities feel supported instead of overwhelmed. My focus is on helping CAI-CV be that connection point — a place where people can learn, problem-solve, and build stronger communities together.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, are service, integrity, and respect for others. In my current role, I am committed to advancing education, planning meaningful events, and advocating for the HOA industry in ways that support both professionals and the communities they serve. I believe in listening with empathy, building strong relationships, and creating opportunities that bring people together. Whether I'm developing educational programs, coordinating industry events, or championing initiatives that strengthen community associations, I strive to lead with professionalism, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact.
