Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I credit my success to my passion for helping others and respecting their autonomy. My role isn’t to fix lives, but to provide guidance and tools that empower people to make their own choices. I especially enjoy clinical case management, ensuring basic needs are met so clients can engage fully in therapy. Helping people recognize their options and supporting them within ethical boundaries is what I find most rewarding. Balancing different aspects of my work keeps me effective and present for those I serve.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in social work is that the work is inherently demanding and often reactive rather than preventive. Systemic gaps, such as inconsistent discharge planning and follow-up, can result in poor outcomes for clients with complex needs.

At the same time, there are significant opportunities to advance the field. I’m excited by the potential to create engaging continuing-education programs and consultation offerings, increase visibility to drive systemic change, and strengthen population- and systems-level skills—such as through public health training—to enhance micro-level practice.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are respect for patient autonomy and informed choice, a holistic biopsychosocial approach to care, and a commitment to service through volunteerism and community engagement.
