About Jane
Jane Katz, MA, is a Family Dog Educator based in Delray Beach, Florida, with more than 11 years of experience helping families understand and effectively support fearful, anxious, and reactive dogs. Building on her background in counseling, Katz brings a unique psychological perspective to canine behavior, examining the emotional and physiological factors that influence how dogs respond to their environment. Her work focuses on helping families develop greater insight into their dogs while building relationships based on trust, communication, and mutual understanding.
Katz is recognized for her intelligent, creative, and individualized approach to problem solving. She views each dog and family as a unique situation that requires careful observation, thoughtful analysis, and a personalized strategy. Rather than simply addressing outward behaviors, she works to understand the factors beneath them, including the role of the nervous system in shaping a dog’s emotional and behavioral responses. This comprehensive approach enables her to develop practical and compassionate solutions that help both dogs and their owners make meaningful, sustainable progress.
At the heart of Katz’s work is a commitment to improving the lives of dogs and the families who care for them. She finds particular fulfillment in witnessing the transformation that can occur when fear and uncertainty are replaced with trust, understanding, and connection. As she continues to expand her professional reach through specialized classes, online education, and potential speaking engagements, Katz remains dedicated to sharing her knowledge and experience with a broader audience. Through her compassionate, intuitive, and evidence-informed approach, she empowers families with the tools and understanding needed to create healthier and more rewarding relationships with their dogs.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jane
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being both analytical and creative in my approach. I take the time to understand each dog’s unique concerns and needs, then develop thoughtful, individualized solutions that make sense for the dog and the family. I view every situation as a puzzle, carefully observing the dog’s behavior, identifying what is driving the challenge, and finding practical strategies that can create meaningful, lasting change.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
For more than 35 years, I’ve dedicated my career to helping people understand behavioral change, and for the past 11 years, I’ve specialized in working with fearful, anxious, and reactive dogs. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is to look beyond the behavior itself and understand what is happening beneath it, particularly within the nervous system. This approach has shaped how I work, allowing me to address the underlying causes of behavior and create more meaningful, lasting change.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field are expanding access to quality dog education and reaching more people through online courses and potential speaking engagements. While I find great fulfillment in the one-on-one progress I achieve through hands-on work with dogs and their owners, I see an opportunity to share my knowledge with a much wider audience. I approach each interaction naturally and intuitively, while also offering specialized Z classes and master classes to provide deeper, more comprehensive learning experiences. My goal is to continue educating, creating meaningful results, and bringing greater value to dogs and the people who care for them.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are making a meaningful difference in dogs’ lives and seeing the positive impact my work has on both dogs and their families. I value building trust and genuine connections, because creating a strong relationship with each dog and owner is essential to achieving lasting, positive change.
