Janet Levine is a celebrated author, educator, and journalist whose career spans more than six decades. She is the author of several acclaimed books, including Liv’s Secrets, Reading Matters, Know Your Parenting Personality, The Enneagram Intelligences, and Inside Apartheid. Her work has been recognized for its depth, historical insight, and engaging storytelling, with Liv’s Secrets receiving a nomination for the 2023 National Book Award. Janet has also contributed as a freelance journalist to prestigious publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Boston Globe, and the Yale Review, as well as numerous South African outlets.

For nearly three decades, Janet served as a tenured faculty member at Milton Academy in Massachusetts, teaching Literature and Philosophy, and inspiring generations of students with her passion for education and critical thinking. Beyond the classroom, she founded the Transforming Teaching Workshops and the Enneagram Teachers Association in the Narrative Tradition, contributing significantly to professional development in education. She also co-founded programs and initiatives in South Africa, including the Independent Schools South Africa Education Program and Ma-Afrika Taxi Ltd, and served twice on the Johannesburg City Council while actively engaging in anti-apartheid efforts.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a lifelong commitment to using my voice—through writing, teaching, and activism—to inspire change and illuminate important truths. My experiences as an anti-apartheid advocate, educator, and author have taught me that passion, perseverance, and a dedication to justice can create a meaningful and lasting impact.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are curiosity, reflection, and balance, which I nurture through my love of classical music, reading, photography, and long walks along the Everglades trails.
