Jasmin A. Green

Client Executive
Marsh McLennan Agency
Columbus, GA 31904

I started in the insurance industry in 1996 when I walked into my second temporary assignment after being in human resources. I had on big shoulder pads and a briefcase, full of confidence, and was promptly mistaken for an insurance company rep. That day, I landed in my industry, and it's been a mostly forward momentum ever since. Going on 27 years I am part of the 5th largest agency in NA working on the commercial side providing full business solutions including workers' compensation, property, general liability, and executive risk. I am not on the sales side, but rather work on the marketing end supporting production, I'm a fixer, mostly. There is tremendous value in the services we offer our clients.

As a first-generation immigrant, I truly came from nothing, 100% self-made, modeling the American dream.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

Sheer willpower, tenacity, hard work, sacrifices, and a little bit of dumb luck being in the right place at the right time. I kept things honest all my life and tried my very best to live by the Golden Rule while paying it forward.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Own your mistakes and learn from them. There is nothing we can't fix together.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To the newly licensed agent- stick with it, keep your nose to the ground, keep your ears open, and get those first accreditation letters behind your name as quickly as possible. The insurance industry is amazing for women, and more so now than ever, because the compensation level has finally equalized. Aside from the agent licencing course, actuarial degrees and risk management are helpful. Everyone that I know fell into insurance by chance. We can teach you the business - you just have to be able to pay attention to detail, be able to do basic math, keep a clear mind, be conscientious, ethical, emphasis on ethical, and catch on quickly.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Attracting and retaining qualify candidates. Some of this can be attributed to logistics and location. Insurance has of course a sales side, but there's so much more: actuarial data crunching, customer service, relationships, because in the end that's what it all boils down to. We adore our clients and truly have the best relationships. That gives meaning to any job description.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Concistency and continuity, Inclusion, innovation, collaboration and having a strong contingency plan.
