Jasmine Rose Penter, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, business owner, and author with more than two decades of experience supporting individuals and families through grief, trauma, and life transitions. She is the founder of Ignite, LLC, a thriving counseling, coaching, and consulting practice based in Eugene, Oregon, where she specializes in working with tweens, adolescents, and young adults—particularly those navigating trauma and post-COVID challenges. Passionate about both clinical care and education, Jasmine also mentors and teaches other clinicians how to address trauma in young people, equipping them with practical tools and trauma-informed approaches.

A published author, Jasmine self-published Side by Side: Living Between Life and Death, available in both English and Spanish, which explores the intersections of medical crises, mental health, post traumatic growth, and the delicate balance between life and death. The book, inspired by her years in medical social work and her deep commitment to hospice and palliative care, has also sparked an upcoming documentary. The documentary will feature several individuals who have utilized her programs and continue to be committed to helping others see how utilizing trauma informed care, supported them overcoming barriers that at points were getting in the way of their healing journey. She is currently working on a second book that continues her exploration of ambiguous loss which includes grief, resilience, and healing across the lifespan. The second book will be written with the help of several individuals who will be sharing their experiences of loss, including what tools and supports they utilized to cope with those challenges.

Jasmine’s career has included extensive work in medical and hospice social work, where she supported patients with severe and persistent mental illness, addiction challenges, and end-of-life care needs. A pivotal moment came while working with a couple who lost their baby, which led her to research in pediatric hospice. With this research she began to reimagine how compassionate, supportive care can and should extend throughout people’s entire lives, from birth to death. This philosophy continues to shape her counseling practice today.

Beyond her private practice, Jasmine is a sought-after speaker, advocate, and leader in trauma-informed care. Her work reflects a holistic belief in healing that integrates emotional resilience, physical well-being, and community connection. With unwavering compassion, she continues to walk alongside her clients, readers, and professional peers, encouraging them to embrace grief as part of life’s journey while also discovering meaning, growth, and hope.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my time attending an all-female college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1997-2001. That experience gave me the confidence to succeed independently, both personally and professionally. I also value the broader benefits of women’s education, including higher graduation rates and career success, while appreciating how those environments reduce competitive pressures and create strong foundations for lasting relationships.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Write your own story and listen for what speaks to both your heart and mind.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I give to young women entering the industry is to focus on “for-now” opportunities that align with their current goals, instead of waiting for the perfect position. Every role can be a steppingstone toward growth, and clarity comes with action. As a clinician, always work closely with other clinicians both for your personal trauma work as well as professionally. Burn out is a real thing and finding your own support network is crucial.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In my career, I’ve seen the challenges in the healthcare system firsthand. The shortage of doctors and primary care providers, the influence of insurance companies, and the increasing corporatization of hospitals are pressing concerns. I’ve also experienced the personal impact of medication-related health issues, which has deepened my perspective and commitment to making a difference. Suicide rates among youth are at an all-time high. The need for trauma informed clinicians and first responders is essential; as well as those who are also dedicated to continuing their own healing as they care and support others.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My personal and professional values are grounded in balance, gratitude, and connection. In my spare time, I enjoy time with my spouse Jeremy and our critters (three dogs and some fish & my office kitty). I also love photography, playing soccer, practicing Taekwondo as a Black Belt, reading, writing, scrapbooking, painting, playing board games, and cherishing moments with my loved ones. The environment is very important to me and watching summers turn into fire seasons is deeply concerning. Nature is such a huge part of my life and having grown up in the Pacific Northwest; is also essential to my well-being.
