Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jaylicia-Jinei Kanani

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God, the guidance and investment of my father, and the unwavering support and belief of my husband. Their encouragement has helped shape my confidence, values, and approach to challenges. My father's guidance taught me to believe in what is possible, while my husband's support has encouraged me to pursue my goals and continue growing. These relationships, together with my faith, have played an important role in my personal and professional journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is that leadership creates experiences, but mentors create leaders. This reminds me that leadership is not simply about holding a position or managing responsibilities. It is about creating opportunities for others to learn, grow, and develop their capabilities. Mentorship is essential because the guidance, encouragement, and experiences shared by others can help shape the next generation of leaders.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women is to spend a year saying yes to opportunities that allow them to learn, explore, and grow. You do not know what you do not know until you give yourself the chance to try something new. Embrace opportunities that challenge your assumptions, expand your experience, and help you discover your strengths. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone, learn from others, and remain open to possibilities that may lead you in unexpected but rewarding directions.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are trust, love, transparency, integrity, family, faith, and kindness. I believe trust and transparency are essential to building strong relationships, while integrity ensures that our actions reflect our values. Faith guides my perspective and helps me navigate challenges, and family remains a central source of support and inspiration in my life. I also believe kindness is a powerful part of leadership because the way we treat others influences the culture we create and the impact we have. I strive to bring these values into my professional responsibilities, leadership approach, and personal relationships.
